What began as a once-in-a-lifetime golf trip quickly became a medical crisis for Vinnie Caputo. After an earache turned into a rare and life-threatening case of meningitis and sepsis, Vinnie was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital, where a highly skilled neurosurgery team was waiting for him.

His wife, Antonietta, remembers how quickly everything unfolded. “When the surgeon handed the phone to the nurse, I could hear him scrubbing in for the procedure. That’s how fast they were moving,” she shared. “It gave me peace of mind knowing they were ready and waiting to take care of him.”

After emergency brain surgery, Vinnie began to make remarkable progress, surprising even his care team. Along the way, the doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital cared not only for Vinnie, but for Antonietta as well, surrounding their family with compassion and support.

Today, Vinnie is fully recovered, back on the golf course, and looking forward to future milestones with his family. “I was in the right place at the right time,” Vinnie says. “St. Joe’s gave me a second chance to celebrate all the good things in my life, and I’m not going to waste a second of it.”

What began as a simple ER visit after a fall in the backyard quickly became something much more for Dexter, the young son of Karen and Micah, and their family. Thanks to a mother’s intuition and the quick action of the team at St. Joseph's Hospital-South, an unexpected abnormality was discovered, leading to a diagnosis of Chiari Malformation and a referral to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital.

Dexter required specialized neurosurgery, and his care team at St. Joseph's worked tirelessly to ensure he received the treatment he needed as quickly as possible. Throughout the process, they provided not only exceptional medical expertise, but also compassion, reassurance, and support for the entire family.

Grateful for the care their son received close to home, Karen and Micah are proud to give back so other children and families can experience the same expert, family-centered care at St. Joseph's.

When avid marathoner and Tampa native David Osterweil and his wife Laura welcomed their first child, they never imagined their journey would begin in the NICU at St. Joseph's Women's Hospital. Their newborn daughter, Sloane, had trouble breathing through her nose and needed immediate, specialized care from the NICU team.

What started as a frightening moment became a powerful story of resilience, gratitude, and hope, thanks to the compassionate care Sloane received. David now gives back as a proud member of the St. Joseph’s Hospitals Foundation Board, helping others experience the same exceptional care his family received.

The Chronic Complex Clinic recently hosted a beautiful Christmas celebration for patients and families. It was an evening filled with laughter, sweet treats, and plenty of cheer. From festive decorations to heartfelt moments, it was a wonderful way to celebrate the magic of the season together.
