Guo Gu, founder of the Tallahassee Chan Center returned to FCM and lead a four-day in-person and online retreat on the Faith in Mind verses of Sengcan September 25-28 at the Tampa Center.

The Supreme Way is not difficult, if only you do not pick and choose.
- Translation by Master Sheng Yen

So begins "Faith in Mind," a seminal poem in the Chan tradition attributed to the Third Patriarch, Sengcan. This succinct text presents a complete view of the Chan path—one that points beyond dualities, conceptual frameworks, and goal-oriented striving.

Our teacher Fred and Dharma Programs Leader Angie Parrish lead a half-day workshop Saturday, September 6 on "Relationship As a Spiritual Path."

In our modern times, creating and maintaining harmonious, emotionally stable and loving relationships seems to be consistently a challenge for many. Whether these relationships are intimate, familial or societal, establishing rewarding and meaningful relationships seems to be an endeavor that for many demands never ending "work".

Relationships will be shown to be a remarkably effective path for developing all the wholesome emotional and mental states that spiritual and meditative practice promise. Relationships are perhaps the most direct and experiential means for developing a truly wholesome and selfless life.

Day of Mindfulness with Fred Eppsteiner

"Taking Adverse Conditions as the Path of Awakening" Saturday, July 19th

The focus of the day was Taking Adverse Conditions as the Path of Awakening. Fred guided us in teachings and practices to help us learn how to transform our conditioned patterns to challenging circumstances. While we may often react to unwanted external conditions with resistance, frustration, or any number of emotionally afflictive mind-states, Buddhist teachings show us that there is another way. Even if we are unable to change what is occurring on the outside, internally, we can utilize the very circumstances we are resisting to help us cultivate patience, compassion, wisdom, and a host of positive mind-states. These in turn, can aid us in more skillfully navigating the circumstances in which we find ourselves and the world..
