It’s not just busy. It’s heavy.

Across districts this spring, we’re seeing the same pressure points.

What’s helping isn’t more.
It’s focusing on what actually works.

Support matters.

“One small act can be the difference between burning out and showing up tomorrow.”

You’re not alone. 💚

What’s one small act that reminds you you’re not alone?

Burnout is real. As the school year wraps up, it helps to remember why we do this work: so students know support is here.

You’re not alone. 💚

Three doctoral students. Three universities. One shared goal: advancing evidence-based student mental health. 🎓💡

This year, we launched our first Graduate Student Research Award to support emerging leaders shaping school mental health:

• Jean Pauline Serrano (UC Santa Barbara ) - exploring trust, coordination, and access to care for students navigating adversity
• Caleb Edney (University of South Florida ) - developing a single-session ACT intervention for youth
• Chloe Hendrix (University of Wisconsin–Madison ) - advancing universal and Tier 2 supports with culturally responsive practices

We’re proud to support their work and the future of school mental health.
Congratulations to our inaugural award winners. 👏

After a few NASP conventions, it starts to feel like a reunion.

You see familiar faces in the hallways, reconnect between sessions, and meet new people who also care about supporting students and schools.

At NASP 2026 in Chicago, the SMHC Center at USF shared:

13 paper presentations
2 symposia
4 practitioner conversations, mini-skills sessions, and workshops
7 posters

And yes… we also had to try some of the food.

Comment if you see yourself in one of these photos đź‘€
Or tell us your favorite food from Chicago (emojis count)

See you next year !

The SMHC Center at USF was proud to present at the NASP 2026 Annual Convention in Chicago.

We shared school-based mental health work as part of a symposium on the Dual-Factor Model of Mental Health, highlighted Project SOAR (Strengths, Optimism, Achievement, and Relationships), and drew a packed room during our session on supporting students experiencing emotionally-based school avoidance.

Presentations also included the STAY team and new research on positive psychology interventions for elementary students with cancer.

We’re not done remembering NASP 2026.
Stay tuned for more!
