A Parents Love For A Teen Addict
I held you in my arms the day
So tiny, helpless and fair.
We wanted a child so very bad
That day, you answered our prayer
--
I can recall your days at school
Learning and growing each day
And how you learned to read and write
And how together, we’d pray.
==
I could see your future as bright and good
I knew you’d be special for sure.
I promised God I would never fail,
My love for you would endure.
==
In your teen age years, we grew apart
I really did not understand
You lost that child-like innocence,
And I lost sight of our plan.
--
From a loving child to a stranger you grew
I was so confused; what was this?
It seemed like we could not even talk
I’d get rejection instead of a kiss.
--
Now I know that your ill
It’s clear from the drugs and arrests
However, I will always stick by you
though my love is put to the test.
--
This path you’ve taken will not be easy
I can’t save you from these harms
This parents love will never fade
For that baby, I held in my arms.
