Important information concerning New Medicare Cards
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that under the Medicare Access and CHIPS Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015, they are required to remove Social Security Numbers (SSNs) from all Medicare cards by April 2019.
New Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) will replace the SSN-based Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN) on the new Medicare cards for all Medicare transactions. They are working to combat identity theft by removing the social security numbers.

CMS will begin mailing the new Cards with the MBI to people with Medicare in phases beginning in April 2018. In an attempt to ease the transition either the prior, HICN or the new MBIs may be used to exchange data with CMS. January 1, 2020, will begin the use of MBIs only, except for a few minor exceptions.

We at BCause Healthcare Consulting, suggest all providers get ahead of the curve and put implementation plans in place to add the new Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI)
to their EHR systems and all patient documents.

Apples initiative is an impressive step towards population health, experience of care and per capita cost, The Triple Aim. Interoperability and interconnectivity goals set by the ONC (Office of the National Coordinator), are a distinct pathway to providing affordable, accessible healthcare.

When comprehensive sharing of information between providers is attained the impact will be a reduction in duplication of testing and increase in correct diagnosis and safety of patients. If your organization needs assistance in reaching their goals, BCause Healthcare is available to assist.

The updated app is still a test version, but hospitals already contributing medical records include heavy hitters such as Johns Hopkins Medicine and MedStar Health.

BCause Healthcare simple tip of the day. While this strain of the flu is airborne, a few simple things everyone can do to battle spreading germs.
1- Stay at home if you are sick, the world won't end if you miss a few days at work!
2- Wash your hands when you go into your home or office, every time.
3- Take a Clorox wipe and clean all of your doorknobs and light switches each week, and after you or a family member has been ill.
