Special Thank you to the Scientific committee of Falk Foundation, Professor Johann Pratschke of University of Berlin and Professor Stefan Fichtner-Fiegel of University of Freiburg, Germany for the invitation to lecture in Berlin. Both are leading Hepatobiliary surgeons in the Western Hemisphere and had significant experience in the field of Hepatobiliary surgery and Liver Transplantation. Each of us had performed more than 1000 hepatic surgeries of all kinds.

"Advances in Hepatology- From Mechanistic Insights to Novel Therapeutic Concepts" 2025 symposium by Falk Foundation was very well attended by many hundreds of hepatologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, scientists, etc from around the World (as far as Australia) to advance the field of liver cancer treatments. It was an incredible learning opportunity and interaction with our medical colleagues about the new therapeutic options for hepatocellular carcinoma using multiple new immunotherapies, targeted treatments, and future genetic markers. Falk Foundation started as a pharmaceutical company producing drugs which then became a global industry and now they are passionately supporting medical education and research in hepatology, hepatobiliary and gastroenterology. What incredible and impressive missions of Falk Foundation. The Berlin symposium is one the best of its kind and really fully attended, very well organized. https://falkfoundation.org/en/

It was an absolute honor and privillege to speak about Moving Boundaries in Liver Cancer Surgery, Robotics and innovative techniques in liver surgery, along side with our colleague and friend Prof. Julie Heimbach from Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota who was tasked to talked about Advancement in the Liver Transplantation side.

Sharing our recent contribution on the development of robotic surgery technique for the field of perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. This is the most complex hepatobiliary resection undertaken via robotic surgery at this time. Refer to our paper on the Annals of Surgical Oncology with link to download technical video below.

We continue to work on this difficult disease treatment from our Hepatobiliary Center in Tampa Florida. We are also excited to continue to collaborate with our esteemed colleagues from around the World comparing short and hopefully soon long-term outcomes of minimally invasive robotic and open Klatskin bile duct cancer surgery.

Congratulations to our research fellow Dr Giuseppe Esposito for representing our hepatopancreatobiliary and robotic program during International Society of Liver Surgeons (ISLS) 2025 Annual Meeting in Toronto. The meeting was well organized with 2 robotic live Liver operations broadcasted from New York and St Louis, excellent academic contents and high-level data were discussed among colleagues. Exciting data on immunotherapy for treatment of advanced liver cancers and liver transplantations.

We contributed studies comparing Robotic vs Open Gallbladder cancer resection short-term outcomes and Robotic Gallbladder cancer resection With VS Without Enbloc biliary resection and Roux-en-Y Hepaticojejunostomy reconstruction as part of IRON study. These are novel studies in the modern literature. Deep gratitude to our multicenter study group and all our collaborators in allowing us to take part in these important academic studies.

We welcome you to join the first didactic day of Robotic Hepatobiliary Surgery Course in ORSI academy in Melle Belgium near Ghent. The hands-on cadaver course is already full but we hope to see you there for the didactic portion.

This course is endorsed by the International Laparoscopic Liver Society (ILLS) and EAHPBA (European-african HepatoPancreatoBiliary Association).

Congratulations for organizing committee, Mathieu Dhondt and Kevin Bauwens.

Congratulations to AdventHealth students presenting various robotic Liver pancreas and biliary tumors/upper gastrointestinal operations during the 2025 American College of Surgeons in Chicago. Healthy and educational discussions among colleagues in the techniques of Klatskin Type 4 tumor resections via robotic, biliary anastomosis, intraoperative Antegrade choledochoscopy, difficult liver resections for the posterosuperior segments via robotic approach, repeat portal dissection for bile duct obstruction and many others.

In 2025, Six (6) students - 3 men and 3 women successfully Entered and Started US Medical Schools spanning from Jefferson Medical College/Jefferson University to University of South Florida (USF), having the opportunity to work in the research program with Prof. Dr. Sucandy and colleagues.

We had the honor and opportunity to work with many other institutions throughout the United States to produce an "External Validation of Our Robotic Tampa Difficulty Scoring System for Robotic Liver Surgery". This is a multi-institutional effort and collaboration to increase safety in robotic hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. We hope this study can encourage other to follow our footsteps and become successful in treating their patients with excellent outcomes, just like ours.

AMILES is Americas Minimally Invasive Liver Surgery Registry, a national database that we started several years ago to capture all outcomes of laparoscopic and robotic liver surgery performed in the USA. Today we have performed more than 700 robotic liver surgeries in our center in Tampa and more than 1000 total liver surgeries since 2016.

It is a pleasure for us to host our colleague Dr Ivan Butriago from Santa Barbara California, 1 week of visiting to see Robotic liver resections for liver cancers and Robotic Whipple for pancreatic head cancer. It is a new era of surgery and Hepatopancreatobiliary education for surgeons and younger trainees, where modern technology really enhances transfer of knowledge and skills much easier compared to the conventional open surgery.
