Hospice care often brings more support than people expect. Some days it looks like comfort. Other days it may be guidance. And sometimes it’s simply knowing that someone is there to help.

It’s okay to put things down for tonight.

Some things can wait.
Some things can rest.

For now, this moment is enough.

Patients and families are best supported when care teams are aligned.

We work closely with providers, case managers, and community partners to ensure smooth transitions, clear communication, and care that reflects what matters most to each person.

Partnership makes a difference for patients, for families, and for the people caring for them.

Grief can do unexpected things.

It can make ordinary places feel different.
It can bring memories back in the middle of a normal day.
It can make you miss things you never noticed.

How has grief surprised you in your daily life?

Families often tell us that they don’t fully understand hospice until they experience it.

Sometimes the most important thing that hospice provides is simply knowing that someone is there to help.

In honor of National Social Work Month, we'd like to introduce you to Ramona, one of our exceptional social workers! Thank you, Ramona, for all yo do.

Ramona shares: I’m an LMSW who started my social work journey at New Mexico State University (BSW) and later earned my MSW from New Mexico Highlands University. I come from a multigenerational New Mexican family—my dad’s side from San Isidro Norte near Pecos, and my mom’s from Old Town Albuquerque—and I’ve always loved the rich culture of our state.

I first realized I wanted to help people during a high school psychology class. When my teacher asked, “Have you heard of the Social Work profession?” everything clicked.

Since then, my career has taken me through Child Protective Services, dialysis care, school social work, serving as a social worker for the U.S. Army in Germany, and now hospice care.

I’m currently taking an 8-week Bereavement Specialist course through the University of Vermont to deepen my skills in supporting individuals and families through grief and loss.

Outside of work, I love New Mexican food (especially from my mom’s kitchen), trying new foods, traveling, arts and crafts, movies, comedy shows, and concerts.

Most of all, I’m grateful to continue serving my community and to be part of a compassionate hospice team that truly meets patients and families where they are.

Today we recognize International Women’s Day and the power of women building care systems rooted in community.

Red Willow Hospice is proudly women founded and women owned, created by Robyn Chavez, BSN and Dr. Joanna Hooper, with a vision of whole-person care — mind, body, and spirit.

We are the only locally owned hospice in Taos County, serving families across Northern and Central New Mexico, including Taos, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and the communities in between.

We believe care should stay close to home, grounded in community, dignity, and respect for the full human journey.

Here’s to women building the future of care. 🌿

Happy National Social Work Month! During this time, we celebrate the incredible social workers who support patients and families through life's toughest moments.

In hospice care, they uplift, defend, and transform by navigating complex systems and advocating for patient wishes.

Their work is built on respect, empathy, and a deep commitment to human dignity.

Thank you to the social workers who bring this care to our community every day.

Support often begins quietly.

In small conversations.
In steady presence.
In moments that don’t look dramatic from the outside.

It doesn’t always announce itself.
Sometimes it’s there before we see it.

Red Willow Hospice would like to take time to introduce you to the faces of our hospice team! Meet the folks that make our organization special ❤️

I’m Lisa, the Director of Spiritual Care and Bereavement at Red Willow Hospice, where I support patients, families, and caregivers through serious illness, dying, and loss. My path into spiritual care grew out of years in healthcare and a deep commitment to whole-person care. Over time, it was the depth of human connection in my work that drew me toward hospice and the opportunity to accompany people more fully through life’s most significant transitions.

I am a generational daughter of Northern New Mexico with roots throughout the region, and I hold a deep love for this community. I live in Taos with my husband, son, and furry friends. Outside of work, you’ll find me cooking, studying everything, and exploring the landscapes that make this place home. ❤️
