We were honored to host a wonderful educational evening in Taos focused on advancing the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease. The event brought together providers and community members to learn more about the evolving role of coronary CT angiography and Heartflow technology in improving cardiovascular care.

This event also highlighted the important work being led locally by Dr. Tiziano Scarabelli and Carol Chen Scarabelli, NP, whose dedication continues to expand access to advanced heart care for patients in northern New Mexico. With Holy Cross Cardiology now the first program in the state to offer HeartFlow Plaque Analysis, their efforts are helping to bring leading edge cardiovascular diagnostics and innovation to our community.

A huge thank you to the Nusenda Foundation for their continued support of Taos Cancer Support Services!

This year, Nusenda honored TCSS with a $5,000 Community Rewards Grant Award to help us continue providing support, resources, and care to individuals and families in our community affected by cancer. Their generosity goes far beyond this gift. For years they have sponsored our events, volunteered their time, and stood beside us in our mission.

They recently stopped by with a thoughtful thank-you box, pictured here with Christy Elliott, Taos Cancer Support Services Program Coordinator.

Together, we are making a difference for people facing cancer in Taos. Thank you, Nusenda Foundation, for being such an incredible partner!

The power of you.

It is an honor to recognize Dr. Trinidad de Jesus Arguello for receiving the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Mexico Behavioral Health Planning Council.

This award reflects a lifetime of compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to behavioral health in rural New Mexico. For more than 50 years, Dr. Arguello has served as a dedicated community advocate, with a deep understanding of the needs of marginalized populations and a strong commitment to culturally responsive and bilingual practices, particularly here in Taos County.

As a valued Board Member of Holy Cross Medical Center, Dr. Arguello brings that same passion and insight to our organization. Her leadership strengthens our mission, supports equitable access to care, and helps ensure we remain responsive to the diverse needs of our community.

We are proud to celebrate her well deserved recognition and grateful for her continued service to Holy Cross and the people of Northern New Mexico.

Holy Cross Medical Center would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the New Mexico Legislature and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for their leadership in establishing the Rural Health Care Practitioner Tax Credit for registered nurses serving in rural hospitals.

This important legislation, which provides eligible rural RNs with an annual tax credit of up to $3,000, represents a meaningful investment in the healthcare professionals who care for some of our state’s most vulnerable and geographically isolated communities. Rural nurses are the cornerstone of hospitals like Holy Cross, delivering high-quality, compassionate care close to home for thousands of New Mexicans.

To date, we have provided 70 letters verifying hours worked for our registered nurses seeking to claim the credit. The strong participation among our nursing staff demonstrates both the value of this program and the tangible difference it is making in supporting and retaining rural healthcare professionals.

We deeply appreciate the Legislature’s and Governor’s continued commitment to strengthening rural healthcare across New Mexico. This tax credit sends a powerful message to our nurses that their dedication, expertise, and service are recognized and valued.

With gratitude,
Holy Cross Medical Center

We are proud to celebrate a major milestone for heart care in New Mexico. On January 22, Holy Cross Hospital in Taos successfully completed the first HeartFlow Plaque Analysis procedures in the state. This achievement reflects the collaboration of our cardiology team, including Dr. Tiziano Scarabelli and Carol Chen-Scarabelli, along with the dedicated work of our radiology and imaging department and the trust of the two patients who participated. Bringing this advanced, noninvasive technology to Taos is another example of Holy Cross’ ongoing commitment to providing the best care possible for our rural community, close to home.
