Josh: “Hey Jamie, I have an idea. Walk with me.”
Jamie: “Oh Lord. What now?”
Exciting news from The Bridges of Hendricks Creek! 🌱🍅🥒🍉
Our Executive Director, Josh Lanier, has a vision to transform our unused rear courtyard off the 400 hall into a relaxing outdoor space designed to boost wellness, activity, and joy for our residents!
We’ve already kicked things off by tilling the soil for vegetable and flower gardens and clearing some small trees behind the fence to open up a beautiful, wider view of the neighboring ball field—perfect for watching the kids play sports while relaxing outside. We know many of our residents come from homes where backyard vegetable gardens were a must-have so we're hoping this space will feel familiar and comfortable!
We’re planting plenty of traditional veggies, with a special focus on tomatoes and cucumbers right along the sidewalk edges so our wheelchair users can easily “grab and go” fresh produce to enjoy back in their rooms. Flower gardens, shrubs, and classic Southern garden touches will add color and charm.
Plans include picnic tables, benches, swing(s), handmade birdhouses, bird feeders, and other delightful decor to create welcoming spots for gathering, gardening, socializing, or simply soaking up the sunshine.
This space will give residents a meaningful connection to hobbies from their past, while encouraging them to get outdoors, stay active, and enjoy the fresh air and vitamin D!
The project will take quite some time (Jamie and Josh are just two people, after all 😂), but we can’t wait to see it come together into something truly special.
Families and friends often ask how they can contribute or sponsor something special for our residents—this is a wonderful opportunity! If you’d like to help prep, plant, or tend, we’d love the extra hands. Or, if you’d prefer to donate or sponsor items like shepard hooks, picnic tables, benches, a swing, bird feeders, plants, shrubs, or any charming decor, we’ve set up an Amazon "wishlist" with items that will make a huge difference. This list will continue to change as we make progress on the project! Link to the wishlist (or message us for details and/or donations of items you already have)! https://a.co/0e0tMkPt
Thank you to everyone for all the continuous support you show to our TBHC Team. We truly appreciate it so much.
We’re so excited to keep our residents busy and happy outdoors this year! Who’s ready for fresh garden goodies and sunny days? ☀️🥒🍅
