Hey friends 👋 I wanted to share something important that's affecting about 1.3 million Medicare beneficiaries right now — and I want to make sure my clients and anyone following along knows exactly what's going on.
CMS is reissuing Medicare cards with new Medicare numbers. This is happening because of data breaches at claims processing vendors that potentially exposed some Medicare numbers. If yours was affected, a new card will arrive or may have already arrived in the mail, effective April 14th.
Here's what you need to do:
✅ Got a new card? Bring it to your next doctor's appointment so they can update your records. Your coverage is NOT changing — just your number.
✅ Didn't get a new card? Your number wasn't part of the breach. Nothing to do.
Now here's the part I really need you to pay attention to ⬇️
Scammers are already taking advantage of this news. Medicare will NEVER call you out of the blue asking for your Medicare number. If someone calls claiming to be from Medicare and asks you to "confirm" your number — that is a scam. Hang up.
Red flags to watch for:
📵 They called YOU
⚠️ They say your benefits will be suspended
💳 They ask for your Medicare number, Social Security number, or bank info
🚨 They offer to "rush" your new card to you
Your new card comes by mail. That's it. No phone call required.
Questions? Send me a message or give me a call. That's what I'm here for. 💙
