Santos Perez

Santos Perez, born on August 10, 1948, in Taft, Texas, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She was the cherished daughter of Willie Farias and Juanita Botello.

Santos was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Felipe Perez, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories. She is also preceded in death by her grandson, Jimmy Joseph Perez, Jr.

She leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever carry her spirit with them: her daughters, Angelita Perez, Anita Perez, Esmeralda Miranda and her husband Artemio; her son, Jimmy Perez and his wife Brandy Perez; her sister, Gloria Rios; and her sister-in-law, Beatrice Perez, her brothers-in-law: Jimmy Perez, Panfilo Perez and his wife, Santos Perez. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews. Santos was the proud matriarch of a growing family that includes 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Each of whom brought her endless pride and plenty of stories to tell.

Santos will be remembered for her big personality and even bigger sense of humor. She was funny, a little bossy, and always kept everyone in line, whether they asked for it or not. She loved playing cards with her family, where the laughter was loud and the competition was real. She had a gift for “talking mess” like no other; quick-witted, playful, and guaranteed to make you laugh (even if you were the target).

She never turned down a cold Diet Dr Pepper and somehow made even the simplest moments feel special. She could be a little mean, but only in the way that made you laugh, shake your head, and love her even more. At the heart of it all, Santos was deeply loving, fiercely devoted to her family, and truly one of a kind.

Her presence will be deeply missed, but her laughter, her stories, and her unforgettable spirit will live on through all who knew and loved her.

She accepted Christ as a young child and was baptized by Pastor Porter Washington at Murphy Christian Church.

Janice attended O.L. Price Elementary School and graduated from Taylor High School in 1970, where she was an active member of the school choir.

Afterward, Janice returned to work with the school district until her health no longer allowed her to continue.

Janice was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing. She loved flowers, shopping, and was known as a fashionable dresser. Music was always at the center of her life. Felisa Tan Li

This is one of those times in life where you find yourself sitting in front of a keyboard trying to figure out how to honor in words the most important person in your life, knowing you will never have the fortune of being in her presence again. That realization was delivered to me in the early morning hours of March 28th, when the powerhouse that was my mom drew her last breath and left a world that brightened in response to her mere existence in it. As I weep uncontrollably, I can’t help but think about what she would be telling me right now. “Why you crying, Jo Jo? You not a baby. It’s natural.” But there is nothing natural to me about the extinction of a light and a force like my mom. The sheer energy that was Felisa.

How could she be gone? How am I to survive it?

If you never had the fortune of knowing Felisa, she was born into an affluent family in 1930’s Manila, the centerpiece of 6 children and fiercely independent. That independence would lay the foundation for a woman who wrote her own rules and through sheer will, forged her own path becoming the singular creature who was my mom.

Felisa was tough. She was a tom boy. While her sister learned to sew and cook, Felisa longed to read, fish, climb trees, and travel. Where her mother admonished her, her father encouraged a sense of adventure leading to an eventual escape to Taiwan in 1964 to marry a poor man, an exiled Chinese soldier, of whom her mother disapproved, a man known only to her through 7 years of letters. She was a teacher, whose patient yet stern approach taught a myriad of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a benefactress, who never turned away from friends or relatives in their time of need, even when she struggled herself to make her own family in a foreign land with all the cards stacked against her. She was mighty. She threw her dainty 4’5” frame into all manner of occupations working as the only female crane operator in an industrial steel mill to taking a second job as a nursing home caregiver when her husband lost his job to the back breaking monotony of an assembly line worker, at times functioning as a typist at night to support her husband’s pursuit of advanced degrees, securing a better life for her family. Yeah, Felisa was tough. She never looked back. Never felt the sting of falling from such fortunes. She focused on the future and the American Dream.

And now with her passing, I can’t help but wonder how Days of Our Lives can continue to broadcast without her faithful viewership, how the coffee industry can sustain without her endless consumption, or how a world as dark as it can be at times could ever be graced with light again without her brilliant mischievous smile to illuminate the way. I suppose the answer is that she lives in all who loved her, of which evades enumeration. I suppose we should be grateful for the 95 years that we had. And as I know this to be true, I also know whatever this experiment of living is will suffer forever from her absence.

So now, alone in a darkened room mirroring the emptiness that will forever occupy my heart, I grieve with the kind of grief that only a child can grieve a parent, with only the kind of grief that can never be fully extinguished and becomes a part of who you will be from this day forward, drawing strength from the knowledge that if I am ever considered joyful, that’s my mom – if ever I make you laugh, that’s Felisa shining through me - and if ever I am lucky enough to leave something better than I found it, the world has my mom to thank.

I love you always, ma. Thank you for sharing your indomitable spirit with the world and for being the best part of me.

Jack Dempsey

J.V. “Jack” Dempsey was born on November 19, 1945. He grew up in Waco, Texas and attended University High School before proudly joining the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18, a commitment that reflected the strength and loyalty he carried throughout his life.

Jack spent many years working for General Tire and Rubber in Waco before later moving to Austin to begin a career as a truck driver. Outside of work, Jack enjoyed spending time at the racetrack in Waco, where you could often find him on Friday nights. He also loved shooting pool and western dancing.

More than anything, Jack was known for his loyalty and protective nature. His sister remembers him as the best brother anyone could ask for, always looking out for her throughout their lives. Friends knew that Jack would stand up for them and do whatever he could to help when they needed it.

Jack was also a man of faith. He spoke often about God and prayed every night before going to bed.

One of the proudest moments in his life was adopting his daughter, Mariah, more than 36 years ago.

Jack will be remembered for his strength, his loyalty, and the way he showed up for the people he cared about.

Between the day Jack was born and the day he passed is a dash. That dash represents a life lived with courage, loyalty, faith, and love for the people around him. It is the stories, the laughter, and the memories from that dash that will stay with all who knew him.

Melquaides “Mickey” Withrow

Melquaides Vargas Withrow, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at the young age of 85. Melquaides, also known as Mickey or Chala by her friends and family, was born in Ferris, Texas on December 10, 1940. Mickey, the eldest of 15, grew up in a time of segregation, she saw the world in so many different phases, moving around due to family working on multiple farms, having to enter restaurants and movies entering through a back door, to watching woman’s right unfold, women earning the right to vote, having rights in a marriage and owning her own home. She lived life to the fullest in every decision she made. Married twice, her first husband James Villareal, they had a son named Jimmy who passed away due to an illness as a child. She then met her soon-to-be second husband, Donald Glenn Withrow. They traveled the world on the back of his motorcycle, or at least the United States. She became the bonus mom to Don’s three children of a previous marriage and loved them as if they were her own. They soon had five children of their own. Life was not always easy, but she always made it work, she worked as a waitress most of her life until she went back to night school and got her GED and became a lab technician until she retired.

Mickey was a sports fanatic even as a youth playing sports with her family, from football, softball and as an adult, would play volleyball with the family. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to play sports and stayed active so she could attend as many events as she could. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. The family would gather at her home for holidays as the family meant everything to her. She followed all of the Texas teams, but there wasn’t a sport she wasn’t following, as she enjoyed watching games on television or attending in person. She was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan.

Mickey was a collector of many things, from her sports memorabilia, anything Elvis Presley related, collecting thimbles and spoons from the family trips to endearing gifts her family gave to her from their travels as well.

Mickey was preceded in death by Don Withrow, son Jimmy Villereal, daughter Joyce Hamby, grandchildren Bryan, Christina, Shawn, Jessica, great grandson Dalton, both of her parents, Antonio and Maria Vargas and siblings; Consuelo Garcia, Antonio Vargas Jr, Jose Vargas I, Jose Vargas II, Eloisa Villareal, Rojelio Vargas, Frank Vargas, Gloria Gaitan, Rebecca Vargas, Felipe Vargas, Prudencio Vargas and Rosalinda Perdue .

She is survived by her children Johnny Withrow (spouse Terri, children Nikki and Tony), Barbara Withrow (children Ray Jr, Natasha, Richard, Michael, Johnathan, Amber and Kimberly), Michael Withrow (children Chris and Cody), Bobby Withrow (spouse Kris, children Meghan, Leslie and bonus daughter Tyler), Vikki Edwards (children Felicity, Brianna and Ethan), Michelle Mosher (children James and Jasmine) and Angela Withrow (children John-Michael and Joshua), 33 great grandkids and 8 great great grandkids. She is also survived by brothers; Guadalupe (Wally) and Victor Vargas. She has left behind many family members and friends whose heart now holds an empty space from her passing.

Mickey chose to be cremated with no viewing or funeral service, but a Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, May 17, 2026 from 12-3pm ct at the Rabb House located at 151 N A.W. Grimes Blvd, Round Rock, TX 78664. Please come share a meal with us and celebrate her life with stories of love and laughter.
