Diane Georgia Diedrich Myers, age 89, of Bethlehem, NC, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at her home.
Diane was born in Huntington, WV on August 20, 1936, to parents George Jacob and Diane Rebecca Diedrich but grew up in Richmond, VA. She was nearly 6ft tall in high school, and was 1st string girls’ basketball player that won 4 consecutive all-state championships. Her athleticism was also seen on the tennis courts where she, at age 16, teamed up with her future husband (also age 16) to form a formidable team, she from the back court and he from the net.
After high school, Daine attended the Medical College of Virginia and achieved a dual RN and BS degree. She worked several years in the psychiatric unit of the medical school until September 6, 1958, when she married her childhood sweetheart George Patrick (Pat) Myers. Diane and Pat then went to Anchorage, Alaska, where she performed general duty nursing. On returning from Alaska, Diane and Pat began their family. Patrick Erickson Myers, born April 1963, Georgia Anna Myers, born June 1965, John Gunar Myers, born January 1967. For the next 22 years, Diane was devoted to being the consummate mother, she instilled in her children an excitement and joy in learning from exposure to literature, the arts, music, all things nature and the gratification of knowledge and holding close, loving relationships with their siblings, peers, family and friends.
Diane returned to nursing at Tayler Manor Psychiatric Hospital in Baltimore, MD for 10 years before retiring and moving to Bethlehem, NC. Diane was a skilled artist and a master gardener. She once referred to her 20-acre Bethlehem home as a pallet board for her plans for the trees, flowers, shrubs and vegetable gardens she would come to plant. Diane was a voracious reader of mostly nonfiction and collector of films of all genres. Her wide-ranging interest and natural empathy made her an excellent listener. A friend once said she was the best listener he had ever known. Both friends and family sought her non-judgmental views and support.
Those that preceded Diane in death, in addition to her parents, are her son Eric, her sister Karen Gardner, brothers-in-law Dr. John Myers and David Maupin.
Those that remain to treasure her life and memory are her husband Pat, her children Georgia in Richmond, VA and Gunar at the home, grandchild Malila Myers in Philadelphia, PA, brother-in-law Dr. James Gardner in Abingdon, VA, and sisters-in-law June Myers in Virginia Beach, VA, and Jane Maupin in Taylorsville, NC. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home in Taylorsville, NC.
