This month we recognize women whose work shaped how we understand the human mind.

Mary Whiton Calkins was a pioneering psychologist who made major contributions to early psychological science and the study of consciousness. Despite completing all requirements for a PhD at Harvard in the early 1900s, she was denied the degree simply because she was a woman.

Still, her work endured.

Calkins became the first woman president of the American Psychological Association, helping shape the future of psychology and our understanding of self, personality, and consciousness.

Her words remind us that our identity and inner experiences matter deeply in the journey of mental health.
