Not every birth goes according to plan.

When labor becomes difficult, prolonged, or stops progressing — a condition called dystocia — an emergency cesarean section may be the safest option for both mom and her babies.

🚨 Seek emergency care if you notice:
• Strong contractions with no delivery
• Long gaps between babies
• Labor that suddenly stalls
• Visible distress or abnormal discharge

Delaying care can lead to fetal distress, oxygen deprivation, infection, or life-threatening complications for the mother.

Emergency C-sections are not failures — they are life-saving interventions when birth needs support.

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and seek care immediately.

We’re here when birth needs backup. 🐾❤️

🐾This is Kilo, our team members kitten, and the star of today’s demonstration on positive reinforcement-based handling!

In the video you’ll see a before and after snapshot.
😾Before: Traditional restraint = stressed and resistant
😸After: Positive reinforcement with a Churu treat = calm and cooperative

🌟 What is positive reinforcement based handling? 🌟
It’s when we reward, calm, desired behavior (with food, toys, or praise) so that pets begin to associate exams and treatments with something positive - not scary.

⚠️Important note: This approach isn’t always possible. Some pets cannot have food during handling, such as:

❌ Pre-surgery or pre-sedation patients
❌ Those with G.I. upset or vomiting
❌ Pets with certain medical restrictions

At EPIC, our goal is always to keep your pet safe while reducing stress whenever possible. ❤️

Some of the most important moments in veterinary care happen quietly, in the middle of the night, when families are facing goodbye.

Recently, we had the honor of supporting a family as they said farewell to their beloved Duke. Beginning with the first phone call and continuing through a private space for final goodbyes, our team focused on offering patience, compassion, and comfort during an incredibly painful time.

Thank you for trusting us with Duke’s care and for allowing us to walk beside you during such a vulnerable time. It is a responsibility we never take lightly.

Cats are experts at hiding pain and illness.

By the time symptoms become obvious, a condition may already be serious. Subtle changes in behavior, appetite, or energy can be early warning signs.

If something seems “off,” trust your instincts. Early evaluation can make a critical difference.

February is National Cat Health Month

Cats are experts at hiding illness, which means subtle changes can be easy to miss. If you notice unusual behavior like changes in social habits or vocalization, weight loss or gain, lethargy, breathing issues, or differences in litter box use, it may be time to seek care.

EPIC Vets is here 24/7 to help when your cat needs emergency attention. Trust your instincts and let our team take it from there.
