After receiving her undergraduate degree from Princeton University, Dr. Yu attended medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. She continued and finished her training as a plastic surgery specialist at the University of Southern California (USC) and the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Institute.

Dr. Yu loves the challenges and creativity that the field of plastic surgery presents. “It actually matters who you are. Because you bring in your own individual touch and artistry.”

When not working, Dr. Yu and her husband are foodies, frequently going from restaurants to donut shops or street vendors in search for something interesting. Although life has gotten busy with two young boys, Dr. Yu also enjoys drawing and painting, playing the piano and viola, and reading (but now, she mostly reads children’s books). As a family, they have a cat named “Doc.” She works to provide the best plastic surgery care for her patients in the Temecula and Redlands areas.

With so many implant choices these days, the decision can seem overwhelming. There are really only 4 major decisions you have to make (saline or silicone, incision location, over or under the muscle, and size) and the process will seem easier. And, within those 4 decisions, nearly all the choices are pretty clear cut for most people. Usually, the longest time spent deciding is on the size.

Let's weigh some of the smallest and largest implants I've worked with.

First, the smallest — 200 cc's, a little less than half a pound.

Now the largest — 700 cc's, one and a half pounds. So for two implants, that's about three pounds total.

Now, these aren't the absolute smallest and largest out there. They do come slightly smaller than 200 cc's, and they do go up to 800 cc's.

When addressing the breasts, if sagging is a concern alongside a loss of volume, a great combination is a breast implant paired with a lift.

Implants don't have to be big. A lot of people worry about that but implants simply restore volume where you need it and where you want it. We pick an implant that helps restore fullness in the upper pole of the breast, then perform a mastopexy or breast lift to address the sagging.

Another common question I get is what surgeries are best done together.

One of the most common situations I see for combined procedures is in women who have finished having children. Pregnancy and childbirth can cause significant changes to the body.

Some women experience a loss of breast volume or sagging, whether or not they breastfed, and may benefit from a breast augmentation, a breast lift, or a combination of both. At the same time, many also deal with loose skin, stretch marks, or a small shelf of skin that overhangs the c-section scar, which a tummy tuck can address beautifully.

Is a breast augmentation right for me?

The decision for breast augmentation is unique and personal. Many women desire to enlarge small breasts, change the shape of the breast, restore breast volume lost following pregnancy, breast-feeding, or weight loss, balance uneven breasts, or simply to obtain a more balanced figure.

Breast augmentation does not, however, correct sagging breasts. To correct saggy breasts, a breast lift can be performed at the same time, or instead of the breast augmentation. Talking to your surgeon is the best way to determine whether breast augmentation, breast lift, or both is the best way to achieve your goals.

What's the difference between high-profile and moderate-profile implants?

It all comes down to projection, or the height, of the implant. Going from moderate to full, the more projection there is compared to the base width.

What profile is right for you depends on a couple of things: how wide your chest is, and how much bigger you want to go. One cup size, two cup sizes, three cup sizes, all of that goes into determining the size and profile.
