Amanda Latham is a Certified Professional Midwife and Licensed Midwife in the state of California.

She specializes in providing holistic, individualized care in the Riverside County. It wasn't until I experienced pregnancy and birth in the hospital setting with an OB that I realized how far we have come as a country from honoring the woman's intrinsic knowing of how to birth. My own instincts as a soon to be mother were disregarded leaving me doubting myself, but in the end I realized that those abandoned instincts were right all along. If only I had a care provider that I trusted and trusted me in return. This is what led me to discover midwifery and ultimately find my calling.

Today was truly everything.

I can't even put into words how much it blesses this midwife's heart to see all these families I love so dearly gathered together in one place. Overwhelming in the very best way.

When you birth out of the hospital, it can feel a little bit like you don't fit in with lots of folks, but days like this definitely show us there's lots of us out there. I truly love seeing friendships form among my clients over their birth experience, homeschool, careers, etc. I've always hoped to build some type of community and today definitely showed me that it's happening!

Thank you all for bringing your family spending your Saturday with mine. 🥹 Love you all! 🤍

I received such a precious and thoughtful gift today from a dear friend/client

The most beautiful Bible engraved with one of my favorite verses (and a contributing factor to naming my practice Heritage Midwifery).

I imagine the edges becoming tattered and worn, the pages garnished with my personal thoughts and notes, verses highlighted, and maybe a few tear drop marks. Makes me weepy thinking of passing this down to my children one day.

Thank you so much sweet Mama for welcoming in for such a sweet time for your family and loving on this midwife. 😘

• O N T H E C U S P •

The calling to be a "birth keeper" is usually a strong one that is not easily ignored. There is nothing more sacred than to stand at the threshold ushering in a new soul as they come Earthside.

There are countless reasons why I personally felt called into this "work". Of course, I'm devoted to combating the stigma that birth has to be scary and miserable. Yes, I want women to feel in charge, empowered, and in awe of what their bodies can do. Likewise, I feel a mighty responsibility to these little souls. I believe the environment and manner in which babies are born leaves a lasting imprint on their lives. I want to come alongside families to help them take ownership over that imprint; that it may be one of gentleness, love, joy, peace, and abundance. It's a beautiful partnership in which I feel privileged to be a part of.

Also- most of my clients choose to catch their own babies, so it's extra fun when I do get to honor.

I've been very quiet over here lately- and in many other areas of my life.

Six weeks ago, I lost my Dad very unexpectedly. Trying to grieve and heal and show up for my family and clients has been all encompassing. Social media has been last on the totem pole.

Losing someone that holds such a huge place in your heart has reminded me a lot about birth. There are times that you feel the pain is too great and you just can't go on, but then you find strength deep within you never knew existed. You come out the other side transformed. The former you no longer exists and there is a long (LONG!) period of adjustment of getting to know this new version of yourself. I've learned beauty and pain coexist on both spectrums of life; in birth and in death.

My Dad LOVED babies and grew to love and be a huge advocate of home birth. He was there in the shadows rooting on each of my mamas as they were laboring and rejoiced with all of you when I'd share the news that a sweet little soul had been welcomed earth side.

I'm going to try to be more active here again, but just felt like sharing something a bit more personal today. Thank you to all my clients for extending such love and grace over these past six weeks, my bestie & midwifery mentor Christina for midwifing me through such a difficult transition and being on call for me in those first several days following, and to the FOUR babes that came last month and brought me so much joy. Newborn babies truly are the best medicine.
