🎉 Today marks 2 years of full-time private practice! 🎉
While More Than A Latch turned 3 in July, August 5th holds a special place in my heart it’s the anniversary of taking the leap into this work full time.

What a ride it’s been. I’ve spent some time today reflecting on the journey, and I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. So many people have believed in and supported this dream and I couldn’t have done it without them.

First and foremost, my husband —my biggest cheerleader (and unofficially underpaid CFO 🙃). His encouragement, steady support, willingness to listen, and behind-the-scenes help have carried me through so much these past few years. I’m endlessly thankful for him.

To my incredible clients: truly, thank you. I still pinch myself that I get to do this work. It’s a privilege to walk alongside families during such a meaningful season and to be part of a birth worker community filled with so many passionate and inspiring providers. From clients to colleagues, and colleagues who become clients—my heart and cup are full.

Here’s to more growth, more learning, and more connection. 💛

World Breastfeeding Week 2025 -

How the General Community Can Support Lactating Parents
1. Normalize breastfeeding. Speak positively about it, support public breastfeeding, and avoid shaming language or commentary.
2. Advocate for better policies. Encourage workplaces, healthcare systems, and governments to offer paid leave, safe pumping spaces, and comprehensive lactation support.
3. Make space. In your business, school, or place of worship, offer quiet areas for nursing or pumping, if possible.
4. Educate yourself and others. Learn about the challenges lactating parents face and how to be encouraging rather than judgmental.
5. Offer practical support. Drop off a meal, hold the baby while a parent eats, or help with chores—these small acts make a big difference.
6. Support access to care. Encourage parents to seek lactation help when needed, and advocate for insurance coverage and affordable care.
7. Listen with empathy. Every feeding journey is unique. Whether a parent is exclusively breastfeeding, combo-feeding, pumping, or weaning—kindness and validation go a long way.

Tomorrow March 5th!

Happy IBCLC Day! https://ilca.org/ibclc-day-2025/

Today, as the International Lactation Consultant Association, we celebrate with more than 35,000 International Board Certified Lactation Consultants in more than 180 countries worldwide, and recognize the importance of skilled, compassionate lactation support and care that has and continues to transform world health.

We also recognize and honour the work of our colleagues, globally, who are growing the profession, developing knowledge and skills, and mentoring our future IBCLCs, particularly in communities and places where social and economic disparities affect access to the IBCLC credential and training.

As IBCLCs, we facilitate, educate, collaborate, and advocate on all aspects of the clinical management of breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and human lactation. We work in clinics, hospitals, and homes, use our knowledge of infant feeding in emergencies to provide support to displaced families with infants during national emergencies and disasters, and so much more.

What attracted you to the critical work of an IBCLC? Who helped you get there? Who would you like to thank?

To all our ILCA members, the ILCA Board sends a big THANK YOU!
Thank you for your unwavering support of mothers, lactating parents, families, and babies on their feeding journeys.

To all our IBCLCs:
Thank you for your commitment to achieving the gold standard in skilled lactation care.
Thank you for your essential research, your dedicated advocacy with policymakers and government, and your multi-disciplinary collaborations.
Thank you for using your knowledge and expertise to transform world health, one family at a time.

Today is IBCLC day, our day to reflect, celebrate, and enjoy! Wishing you a very happy IBCLC Day!

Be sure to join the celebration! Visit our IBCLC Day resource page for custom social media graphics, thank you e-card, facility flyer, celebration ideas, ways to share your IBCLC story, and more.
