“NEMT Driver” is not the right term.

Words shape industries.

In many sectors, a driver moves a vehicle from point A to point B.

In Non-Emergency Medical Transportation, the responsibility is broader.

When service is delivered as NEMT, it includes:
• Awareness of mobility devices and passenger needs
• ADA and civil rights compliance
• Person-centered service
• Protection of health information
• Program integrity responsibilities
• Medical emergency awareness

That is more than vehicle operation.

BSR/NEMTAC 3001-2025 establishes minimum education and competency expectations for this role.

The industry term that reflects that scope is:
Transport Specialist.

And those who complete the certification pathway aligned with the standard are:
Certified Transport Specialists (CTS).

Professional language is not cosmetic.
