𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 (𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗖)

NEMTAC has opened applications for a new Preparedness & Response Advisory Committee (PRAC) focused on strengthening coordination between Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT), EMS, Mobile Integrated Health, Community Paramedicine, healthcare systems, and other low-acuity response programs.

This committee will support NEMTAC's role in developing standards and education for the NEMT industry, ensuring that NEMT organizations are properly trained and prepared to meet the operational needs of EMS agencies and healthcare partners—while maintaining clear boundaries between EMS response and NEMT’s non-emergency scope.

Key focus areas include:
• Improving operational alignment for low-acuity diversions and alternate destinations
• Enhancing preparedness and surge coordination between NEMT, EMS, and health systems
• Strengthening communication and safety practices at EMS–NEMT interface points
• Identifying opportunities to improve patient safety and system efficiency

𝗡𝗘𝗠𝗧𝗔𝗖 𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗣 – 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮

Day 2 at the National RTAP Conference continued to highlight the essential role of mobility managers, rural transit agencies, and state DOT leaders in expanding access across rural and tribal communities.

A standout session focused on 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀—an often underutilized but highly effective strategy for filling rural mobility and NEMT gaps. The updated National RTAP Volunteer Driver Toolkit provides practical guidance and case studies showing how volunteer models can extend service reach and strengthen community support networks.

The day also featured forward-looking discussions on f𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-/𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁-𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, including how rural agencies are partnering with rideshare providers to increase flexibility, access, and rider convenience in low-density areas.

The 𝗙𝗧𝗔 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹 reinforced the importance of coordination, accessible data, and rider-centered planning—aligned with NEMTAC’s focus on national standards, education, and operational guidance for safe, reliable NEMT services.

Another valuable day of learning and connection with partners committed to strengthening rural mobility nationwide.

𝗡𝗘𝗠𝗧𝗔𝗖 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗣 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 – 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭

Proud to represent NEMTAC today at the 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗣 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 in Austin. Day 1 brought a strong focus on rural and tribal mobility, multimodal planning, and the growing need for predictable, connected transportation options.

𝗧𝘅𝗗𝗢𝗧 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝘀 highlighted Texas’s diverse operating environments and the importance of expanding rural access, workforce capacity, and safety across all transit modes.

𝗞𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗶𝗰 (𝗢𝗣𝗕) shared powerful stories from traveling rural America entirely by transit—underscoring how essential community connection, rider insight, and consistent service are to improving mobility in frontier and underserved communities.

These discussions closely align with NEMTAC’s mission to advance 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 for the NEMT and human service transportation workforce.

What a week! We are wrapping up an incredibly productive time at the NAMD Conference, connecting with leaders who are shaping the future of Medicaid.

It was a privilege for NEMTAC® to participate in discussions that reaffirmed the essential role of collaboration between NAMD and partners.

The focus was clear: strengthening connections to ensure state programs have the resources they need to deliver high-quality, reliable mobility solutions.

Strengthening Partnerships for Better Medicaid Mobility

This week, NEMTAC Executive Director Peter Hicks, Board Chair Tanya Woods-Copeland, and Vice Chair Jeremy Scalzi are pleased to be attending the National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD) Conference—a gathering that consistently brings together the leaders shaping the future of Medicaid coverage, administration, finance, and state program frameworks.

NAMD’s work to equip states with clear, accessible resources across its core focus areas is essential. As the landscape continues to evolve, collaboration between NAMD and NEMTAC becomes increasingly important—ensuring that high-quality, consistent, and safe Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) remains a reliable link in the healthcare continuum.

For NEMTAC, this week is about listening, learning, and leaning into the long-standing values of partnership and progress. The conversations taking place here help inform accreditation, national standards, and the tools providers need to deliver the best possible care and transportation experience.
