Dear Patients,

Due to a recent physical malady and unforeseen/unexpected personal and business circumstances over the past several months, it is with a heavy heart that I am taking a leave from Chiropractic practice for a while. The last day of practice, for me, is February 24th, 2023
I do have a doctor to recommend seeing while I am on leave. The doctor’s name is Jeff R. Roderick. He is located at: 4864 E. Baseline Road, Suite 105 Mesa, AZ 85206. His phone number is (480) 702-1411. His site is: www.Drjeffroderick.com.
I will still reachable through my email: mstarkeychiro@gmail.com. and my phone will remain operational.

With the heat comes an increased possibility of dehydration, especially in the desert. The attached chart shows a large variety of sports drinks that help to replenish fluids and electrolytes. As you can see at the bottom of the chart, there is research that shows carbohydrates (sugars) are needed in order to speed up absorption. There is also a recommendation for sodium intake. If you don't need the fluid quickly, and use it more for continued hydration, then pick a drink with low/no carbs. Happy Summer!!

Well, here we are again, coming into the lovely summer months in Arizona. So, once again, its time to refresh our knowledge on heat exhaustion versus heat stroke. Dehydration and overheating can happen rapidly here and your knowledge may be the key to saving a life!

While your standing posture is important in helping you to reduce gravitational stresses throughout your neck and back, your sleep posture is important, as well. There are good and bad sleep postures. Some can increase your risk of having back or neck pain and some that can reduce the risk of spinal pain. It has to be realized, however, that your mattress and pillow must also be supportive. Take a moment to check out the included illustration. Please click on the picture to better see the explanations.
Happy Dreams!!

Over the years, I have been asked whether or not regular chiropractic care (maintenance type care) is truly beneficial. Even though I have seen and heard about the positive effects of regular care from numerous patients, I could not site any type of study/review findings.....until now. In the full study review findings, it has been shown that regular care helps with stress, anxiety, blood pressure, digestion, and other physiological functions! This review was published in "Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research" Check it out!

Objective Physiologic Changes and Associated Health Benefits of Chiropractic Adjustments in Asymptomatic Subjects: A Review of the Literature

Objective: To review existing literature documenting objectively measured physiologic changes and their associated health benefits subsequent to chiropractic adjustments, primarily in asymptomatic individuals.

Data Collection: “Asymptomatic” “normal” “pain-free” and “healthy” subjects were keywords used to search for articles pertaining to the objective. Data was collected directly from the bound journals of the Palmer College of Chiropractic library in Davenport, IA, Life University library in Marietta, GA, and the Sherman College of Chiropractic library in Spartanburg, SC. Some articles were downloaded from peer-reviewed journals accessible through campus Internet subscription.

Results: More than twenty studies were found documenting objective health benefits in subjects who were specifically described as “asymptomatic,” “healthy,” “normal,” or “free from physical injury.” Nearly an equal number of studies were found documenting objectively measured health benefits in subjects to which no symptomatic presentation was described.

Conclusion: The data reviewed lend support to the contention that chiropractic adjustments, often for the purpose of correcting vertebral subluxation, confer measurable health benefits to people regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms. A significant amount of preliminary evidence supports that people without symptoms can benefit from chiropractic care. Improved function can be objectively measured in asymptomatic individuals following chiropractic care in a number of body systems, often by relatively non-invasive means. It is plausible that chiropractic care may be of benefit to every function of the body and have the potential for long-term, overall health benefit to those receiving chiropractic care.

Our Story

Hello, and welcome to my facebook site! My name is Michael Starkey and I have been a practicing Doctor of Chiropractic for many years. As a matter of fact, I grew up around Chiropractic, as my father and great-uncle were Chiropractors. From an early age, I have seen the positive effects of Chiropractic on many different types of injuries due to accidents, sports (mine included), to the aches and pains from activities of daily living. Because of this exposure, I grew up wanting to help people make their lives better through chiropractic.

My personal journey to become a Doctor of Chiropractic began at Ohio State University, where I was admitted into their pre-med program. Once I had completed my pre-requisite requirements, I applied and was accepted at National University of Health Sciences. I chose National University because it was the first accredited chiropractic college in the world and was well known for its research. It was also around this time that I married my wife Jane. The program at National was an extra 5 year course of studies. When finished with my education, I had earned a B.S. in human biology and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree.

After graduating from National University, I moved to Arizona with my wife and my recently newborn daughter. I had wanted to live here since I was 8 years old when my family (Mom, Dad, and the siblings) had taken a trip through the west. I passed the Arizona State Board Examination and received my Arizona license to practice Chiropractic and use physiotherapies and rehabilitation techniques. For 3 years, I worked with other doctors as an associate doctor and learned various techniques and insights beneficial to patients' well-being. During this time, my wife and I had another baby girl.

I finally decided to open my own practice. I wanted a practice where patients would feel welcome and appreciated. I wanted my patients to feel they were getting a great return for their healthcare dollars! So, my practice was born, as was my 3rd daughter (7 months after opening) and my son (2 years after opening). It was after my son was born that I decided to become a founding member of the I.C.A.’s Chiropractic Council on Pediatrics.
