We extend our deepest thoughts and support to our partners at Pafford EMS after this heartbreaking incident. We are holding the crew members, the patient’s family, and all involved responders in our thoughts during this difficult time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pafford EMS Ambulance Transporting Patient on I-55 Hit Head-On

WESSON, MS - [February 6, 2026] – Pafford EMS is heartbroken to confirm that one of our ambulances was involved in a serious crash last night on I-55 near Wesson, MS. The ambulance was traveling northbound and had two crew members on board, both of whom are currently in critical condition. They have both been flown to the nearest trauma center.

Unfortunately, we also received the heartbreaking news that the patient being transported in the ambulance was pronounced deceased at the scene. We are unsure of the condition of the driver who struck us head-on.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is the lead investigative agency for this tragic crash.

As we navigate through this difficult time, we ask for your compassion and to join us in praying for everyone affected. Our top priority remains the safety and full recovery of our crew members, and we are committed to supporting them in every way possible during their recovery journey.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all emergency services that promptly responded to this incident. Their support was invaluable in managing the situation. Thank you for everything you have done for these four patients tonight.

This information is preliminary and subject to change. If any updates are necessary, we will keep you updated via our page.

This National Burn Awareness Week, we thank our partners and first responders across the country who act quickly to save lives and provide aid following serious burn injuries.

When burns are severe, getting patients to specialized medical care as fast as possible can significantly impact recovery, with experts at the American Burn Association recommending that those with serious burn injuries or respiratory issues be transferred to specialized care within two hours. Through partnership and teamwork with ground teams and our air teams, communities can receive and reach the advanced care they need when seconds truly matter.

Saving lives takes teamwork—not only within our crews, but by partnering with local first responders in our communities to provide care in times of crisis.

We’re thankful for our partnerships across the country that work together to prioritize patients in emergency situations, and all first responders who put the needs of others first each and every day to serve the greater good.

Our crews save lives in the air, but anyone can save a life by donating blood.

January is National Blood Donor Month. It’s a critical time when blood reserves are at their lowest and donations decline.

As part of the life-saving processes on board our aircrafts, certain flights carry whole blood products—providing a single, immediate solution for critically injured patients when every second counts. PHI relies on blood donations to keep patients stable and improve survival rates by up to fourfold.

We encourage anyone who can to give blood, save a life, and make a difference on land and in the skies.
