Did you know that community acupuncture clinics have roots in black communities?
Black revolutionaries in the 1970s were some of the first groups to bring acupuncture to the US. Groups in both Bronx, NY and Oakland, CA were simultaneously using acupuncture to bring healthcare to underserved communities of color.
Without these two groups advocating for their communities who knows where acupuncture would be today. This was an important step on the path that eventually led to the legalization of acupuncture in the United States.
