Singing has become something we’ve grown to love doing together! Some days we even get the whole clinic involved!! Because if it’s meaningful to them, it’s meaningful to us!

Our sessions sometimes start with what looks like just singing into a mic & dancing to Walking on Sunshine. But really… it was vestibular input, auditory-motor coordination, emotional attunement, desensitizing to loud sounds, & co-regulating (my fav!!)

The mic made it silly!! The connection made it therapeutic & honestly it is exactly what both of our nervous systems need some days!!

When kids feel safe & seen, they can show up fully!! Regulation doesn’t start with strategies it starts with relationships and rapport!

Truth is, I see so much of myself in the kids I get to treat. Their big feelings, their sensory sensitivities, their need for safety before anything else!!

Connection always comes first at Rise Center ☀️🌞🎤👯💃

Crafts can address so much!
This one addressed all of the following listed and more! ✂️🖍️

-Coloring, opening caps on markers and glue, squeezing glue bottles improve hand strength.
-Using a hand to stabilize a paper, or hold something while opening it with the other hand works on bilateral coordination.
-picking up small pieces of paper, sequence, tissue paper etc working on isolating fingers and sides of the hand, and improving grasp.
-turning paper during cutting and body placement addresses motor planning
-sitting at table top working on posture, impulsivity, and attention to task
-following multi step directions, sequencing the steps in the correct order, and gathering necessary items during planning it out
-initiation, ideation, and creativity to come up with and execute their own ideas! 💡

Happy occupational therapy month!!
Here at Riss Center, we aren’t just playing; we’re helping kids tackle big emotions, build strong bodies, and grow their independence.
We’re here for the high-fives when they master that tricky button, the cheers when they stay regulated, the hugs when they don't, and the smiles when they realize they can do hard things.
