When we experience trauma, our nervous system adapts to protect us. These responses aren’t flaws—they’re survival strategies that once served a purpose. Here’s how they may show up:
✅ FIGHT
Controlling or dominating behavior• Quick to anger or frustration• Defensive, argumentative• Can present as narcissistic traits or a need to “win”➡️ Root: “If I stay in control, I stay safe.”
✅ FLIGHT
Constant busyness or overworking• Perfectionism and anxiety• Difficulty slowing down or resting• Avoidance of uncomfortable emotions➡️ Root: “If I keep moving, I won’t feel it.”
✅ FREEZE
Feeling stuck, numb, or disconnected• Difficulty making decisions• Low motivation or shutdown response• Avoidance through dissociation or zoning out➡️ Root: “If I don’t move, I might survive this.”
✅ FAWN
People-pleasing and over-accommodating• Difficulty setting boundaries• Fear of conflict or rejection• Losing sense of self in relationships➡️ Root: “If I keep others happy, I stay safe.”
✨ Healing begins with awareness. These patterns are not who you are—they are what helped you survive 🩵
