When it mattered most, U.S. Army 1st Lt. John Earl Warren chose others over himself. While serving in the Tay Ninh Province of Vietnam, Warren moved with his team through enemy fire, and in his final act, shielded his men from a gr***de blast. Warren was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor and is laid to rest at Long Island National Cemetery. We honor his service.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor earned the Medal of Honor for his actions on September 29th, 2006, in Ramadi, Iraq. While his element was under attack, an enemy gr***de bounced off his chest and fell in front of him. He could have escaped the blast but instead threw himself on top to shield his fellow comrades from the blast. Monsoor is laid to rest at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. We honor his service.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among Veterans—which is why has made screening easier and more accessible than ever.

From the convenience of at-home options to screenings available at VA facilities, have more choices than ever before. Each month, VA mails 35,000 free f***l immunochemical testing (FIT) kits, while also expanding screening processes and using advanced AI technology to improve early detection.

No matter which option you choose, the most important step is to get screened. Talk with your VA care provider about the option that’s right for you.

In recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we invite you to come meet your Temple GI Procedure team on March 26, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the foyer of Building 204 at the Olin E. Teague Veterans Medical Center to learn more about colorectal cancer, screening options, and how early detection can save lives.

Exciting changes are underway at Olin E. Teague Veterans Medical Center.

Our newly remodeled 4th floor patient rooms are now single occupancy, designed to give more privacy, comfort, and space for loved ones to stay close, even overnight. Each room includes modern lifts to support safe movement, a private walk-in bathroom with a connected shower, and personalized Texas imagery to bring a sense of home.

Retired Army Sergeant Kerry Welch, one of the first Veterans transferred to the unit, shared that “it’s impressive to experience the amount of private space and modern amenities,” adding that he can already see how it benefits both Veterans and staff. Most importantly, he said, “I feel honored and appreciative to receive the best healthcare in the world.”

This is just one of many improvements happening across the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System.

More to come for our Central Texas Veterans.
