This Black History Month, we recognize Dr. Maxie Clarence Maultsby Jr., who developed a form of psychotherapy called rational behavior therapy. RBT emphasized self‑counseling and encouraged patients to complete homework that supported healthier habits, routines and thought patterns.

Throughout his career, Dr. Maultsby created additional self‑help treatment methods and founded the International Association for Clear Thinking in 1978. His work influenced the development of therapeutic approaches and expanded the tools available to clinicians and patients.
