Sports Vision Specialists is an optometric office whose professionals provide vision therapy as well as sports vision training.
We provide neuro-optometric rehabilitation services for patients of all ages (thus far, youngest has been 3 and oldest in his 80's). This rehabilitation is that part of optometric care devoted to developing, improving, and enhancing visual performance. Vision therapy provides an opportunity for patients to develop their visual skills in the most efficient manner. When the visual system works more efficiently, more visual information can be received, processed and comprehended. Individuals with good visual skills read faster with less effort, understand more of what they read and retain it longer. Through vision therapy, patients are able to develop more efficient visual performance thus greatly enhancing their lives.

When I see my Cloutier boys on the schedule, it always makes my heart smile. I’ve had the privilege of getting to take care of these two for at least 5 years - Tanner was the size Tyler is now the first time I saw them. These boys always make me laugh (and make me crazy at times). I miss seeing these vision therapy graduates and their awesome momma, Kailee, weekly at their vision therapy sessions. It was great to see the three of them yesterday!

MEET 3 YEAR OLD DECLAN!!!
AT WHAT AGE SHOULD KIDS START HAVING EYE EXAMS??
SIX. MONTHS. OLD.
That’s right! 6 months. Dr. Judson is our area’s only board certified pediatric optometrist who sees patients this young. After 6 months - kids should have their visual system assessed at 2, 3, and 4 years old and every year they are in school. Why 2, 3, and 4? To help improve sight if a condition called AMBLYOPIA starts to develop. Amblyopia is where one eye does not see as well as the other despite best optical (glasses) compensation. The earlier a child gets treatment, the better outcome.
Our patient, Declan, was seen 5 weeks ago and was found to have amblyopia of his left eye. At the time of his first exam, with best prescription, he saw 20/30 in his right eye and 20/80 in his left eye. After wearing the correct prescription for 5 weeks, Declan was able to see 20/30 in his right eye AND 20/30 IN HIS LEFT EYE!!! If his mother had not sought correct treatment early, he could have been plagued with life-long reduced sight in his left eye.
PLEASE help your child see as clearly as he/she possibly can and have their eyes examined every year with us!

Sports vision training makes good athletes great. The individualized sports vision training programs at Sports Vision Specialists provide targeted vision performance training, with sport and position specificity, to enhance and develop elevated levels of sports performance.
Each sport requires a specific skill set. Some athletic skills can be attributed to a natural ability; while others can be taught, practiced and honed to perfection in an effort to improve athletic performance to its peak. But what if, after all of the effort and hard work, the performance doesn’t show the expected results?
Visual skills and timing influence every aspect of the game.
Every sport can be broken down into three skill areas – mental skills, physical skills and visual skills. Athletes and their parents typically think of private lessons to work on the mechanic of the sport, upgrading to “high tech” equipment, and more time on the playing field to improve concentration and focus. Many athletes direct their efforts toward improving mental and physical skills, and overlook the importance of visual skills and timing. Visual skills and timing influence every aspect of the game.
In addition to sports vision training, the doctors and staff of Sports Vision Specialists help patients who have vision related learning deficiencies. 80% of what a student learns is through the visual system. There are over 20 different visual skills that a visual system uses for learning. If any of these visual skills are in deficit, a student cannot learn up to their full potential academically. Via vision therapy, patients are able to remediate these visual difficulties enabling them to perform much better in school and in life.
