Join us for an engaging presentation with Terre Haute native and noted historian Dorothy Jerse on Tuesday, November 4th at 3:00pm in our Community Center.
Having made her mark locally and regionally, Dorothy brings decades of experience in historical research, writing, and community work. She has authored and co-authored multiple books on Vigo County and Terre Haute history; served as curator for the Vigo County Historical Society; worked as Executive Director of the YWCA Terre Haute, where she led a successful $1.9 million building campaign; and published a weekly “Looking Back” column in the Tribune-Star for 25 years.
In her upcoming talk, Dorothy will explore the dramatic events of the 1920s leading up to and including the stock-market crash of 1929, examining causes, consequences, and how those national economic tremors were felt in our own community and region. Attendees will gain insight into how the exuberance of the Roaring ’20s, speculative markets, and local business practices converged to produce one of the major turning points in American history — and how the ripple effects reached right here in Terre Haute.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear a skilled storyteller and seasoned historian bring the 1920s and the crash to life — anchoring it locally and showing its relevance today.
