We remember Gregory Smith Carter of Terre Haute, who passed away on December 21, 2025. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Greg built a life rooted in service, integrity, and community. He was a graduate of Rivet High School, Indiana University, and Indiana University School of Law, and spent decades serving the Wabash Valley as an attorney and prosecutor, with a career that reflected deep commitment to justice and public service.

Beyond his professional life, Greg was actively involved in his faith and community, serving through St. Joseph University Parish, Catholic Charities, the Red Cross, Lifeline, and local bar associations. He was known for giving his time, leadership, and care to others.

In the spirit of that generosity, Greg’s collection of high-quality shoes was donated to Wabash Valley Recovery Center, which allowed us to pass them along to the Excel Center in Terre Haute, at the Meadows Shopping Center, where they will support students working to build new opportunities for themselves. We are grateful to be a small part of honoring Greg’s legacy through continued service to the community he cared so deeply about.

📣Help support SB 91 by clicking the link below and contacting your legislators today! Only takes 30 seconds and a few clicks.

The SB 91 — which would extend Indiana’s Syringe Services Program law for another ten years — passed out of the Senate Health Committee on 1/7/2026, and now moves to the full Senate. A floor vote is expected by Monday or Tuesday (January 12th-13th, 2026) so now is the time to contact your Indiana Senator and urge a YES vote on this life-saving, cost-effective legislation.

If you dont know the facts about SSPs, we've attached a flyer below with the truth about the outcomes that happen when a community has access to syringe programs.

💜 Today is International Overdose Awareness Day—a day to remember those we've lost, support those still struggling, and commit to ending the stigma around substance use.

Since 2020, Indiana has seen over 8,000 lives lost to drug overdoses. In 2023 alone, there were 2,130 overdose deaths statewide... a 17.1% decrease from the previous year, but still a stark reminder of the ongoing crisis. Fentanyl remains the leading substance involved in these tragedies, often compounded by other drugs like methamphetamine and co***ne.

If you or someone you know is at risk, harm reduction saves lives. At WVRC, we're here to help. We offer free naloxone (Narcan), fentanyl test strips, and other harm reduction supplies... NO QUESTIONS ASKED AND WE DELIVER TO 7 COUNTIES. You can request yours here:

https://www.wabashvalleyrecovery.org/request-supplies

Together, we can make a difference. Let's honor those we've lost by taking action today.
