🌟 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: REBECCA 🌟

What made you join CrossFit?
“Kristi convinced me to come to Bring-a-Friend Week. That was the hardest workout I had done in a long time and I thought I was going to die 😂 but everyone was so supportive. I’d never had people cheer for me during a workout. I went back a couple days later, signed up for the 30 days, and was hooked. The community at CommonGround is definitely what made me decide to join after the 30 days. The support of the coaches and other members is what makes it a special place.”

Biggest challenge in the beginning:
“Failure. I didn’t want to fail so I didn’t push myself. I knew this about myself and made sure the coaches knew — so they pushed me and still do.”

What keeps you coming back on tough days?
“Knowing that showing up and doing something is better than not showing up at all. Some days are going to be better than others, you just need to keep going. It also helps that even when you’re having a tough day, when you walk through the door we’re all doing the same thing and going to encourage and support each other.”

What are you most proud of?
“Seeing the growth over the last 16 months. My mindset has changed and I know failing is part of the process. Lifting heavy, saying I can’t do something then doing it, finishing my first RX workout, prioritizing working out, and showing up consistently!”

How has your mindset changed?
“It’s more about how I feel and not the number on the scale. When I look at myself I see someone who is strong and can do hard things. Seeing the big numbers on the barbell or being able to do movements I couldn’t before are what really matter.”

What would you tell someone intimidated to start?
“The hardest part is walking through the doors the first day and making the commitment to yourself to prioritize your health. CrossFit is for everyone and every workout and movement can be scaled to your abilities. Seeing the growth is the best part!”

“I’ve lived in 8 states and 2 countries.”

Fitness Friday:

Let’s Talk Sleep Quality 💤

Most people focus on how many hours they sleep… but your sleep quality matters just as much as the quantity.

Here are three key pieces to understand:

😴Sleep Efficiency:
This is the percentage of time you’re actually asleep compared to the time you spend in bed.
Higher efficiency = better recovery. Aim for 85% or higher.

😴Sleep Latency:
This is how long it takes you to fall asleep.
Taking under 20 minutes is considered healthy. Longer times may mean stress, caffeine, or training late is interfering with your recovery.

😴Why It Matters for Recovery:
During deep and REM sleep, your body releases growth hormone, repairs muscles, restores glycogen, and strengthens your nervous system.

If you’re not getting high-quality sleep, your strength, endurance, coordination, and even mood take a hit.

Bottom line:
Want faster times in Metcons?
Want stronger lifts?
Want faster recovery?
Dial in your sleep—not just the hours, but the quality.

Your training happens in the gym…
Your progress happens when you sleep. 😴💪

Tomorrow for Veterans Day we take on CHAD 1000X. 🇺🇸

This isn’t about the score, the pace, or the leaderboard. This one is about showing up and honoring those who have carried more than most of us could imagine.

Veterans Day reminds us that many have sacrificed pieces of themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally, so we can live with the freedoms we do today. We move to remember. We grind to honor. We don’t quit to respect their service.

So bring your backpack/ruck if you’re loading it and settle in. One step at a time. One rep at a time. 1000 box step ups together.

No better way to kick off a milestone birthday than with your Common Ground family! 🥳 Saturday morning’s Sculpt ended with a surprise birthday celebration for our instructor and all around amazing person, Leah Allman!

Kelsey and Leah’s husband Craig popped into class with treats, gifts, adorable birthday signs and leading a round of 🎶 “Happy Birthday!”🎶

In all their “sweaty glory” the entire class posed for photos to celebrate one of our favorites!

Happy Birthday Leah! Thank you for sharing yourself and your special day with us. Your light shines bright! 🙏
