Welcome! My name is Janice Clarke and I help moms of color feed their babies with confidence.

JC Lactation Counseling is a Bronx-based private practice offering in-person & virtual postpartum breastfeeding support and prenatal breastfeeding education. I offer clarity and reassurance for mothers who are perhaps the first in their families to breastfeed, seeking a holistic approach, and want to work with a lactation professional who looks like them.

Here, our mission is to provide clarity and reassurance. We are curious, empathetic and relatable, and we strive to provide you with the information and support you need to feel confident about breastfeeding.

My company’s vision is:

To provide nonjudgmental feeding support to all parents and their babies.
To normalize breast/chest feeding and promote human milk as the cultural norm
To empower marginalized populations with evidence-based breast/chest feeding information

Breastfeeding is a beautiful and natural way to nourish your baby. As a Black mother, you have the strength to provide your child with the best start in life. Trust your body's ability to produce milk and embrace the bond that breastfeeding creates between you and your little one. You are amazing!

✨ 5 years ago, I didn't even know what a lactation consultant was. I had a career in Environmental Health & Safety, graduate coursework under my belt, and was getting ready to welcome my little one.

Now, I'm working on becoming a lactation consultant , something that I initially didn't have any interest in doing! But Black moms deserve high quality care and I strive to provide that.

This "gold standard" in lactation care isn't easy to come by. At a minimum I need:

➡️ 95 lactation specific education hours
➡️ 14 college level courses
Lastly, and arguably the strongest aspect of my training,
➡️ 500 supervised clinical hours by a current IBCLC

I am so grateful for my mentors for training and educating me 🙏🏾☺️
