JC Lactation Counseling

JC Lactation Counseling Welcome! My name is Janice Clarke and I help moms of color feed their babies with confidence.

JC Lactation Counseling is a Bronx-based private practice offering in-person & virtual postpartum breastfeeding support and prenatal breastfeeding education. I offer clarity and reassurance for mothers who are perhaps the first in their families to breastfeed, seeking a holistic approach, and want to work with a lactation professional who looks like them.

Here, our mission is to provide clarity and reassurance. We are curious, empathetic and relatable, and we strive to provide you with the information and support you need to feel confident about breastfeeding.

My company’s vision is:

To provide nonjudgmental feeding support to all parents and their babies.
To normalize breast/chest feeding and promote human milk as the cultural norm
To empower marginalized populations with evidence-based breast/chest feeding information
I look forward to working with you and your baby!

If you are:

The first one in your family to breastfeed/chestfeed/bodyfeed
Having trouble latching your baby and feeling like you're ready to quit
Angry because your breastfeeding concerns are dismissed by others
Worried about your milk supply

Then you will benefit from the solid advice of someone who looks like you.

I can assist with:
Prenatal Consultations
Establishing/maintaining milk supply
Latch and positioning
Identifying inadequate weight gain
Engorgement
Plugged ducts
Nipple pain
Alternative feeding techniques (example: bottle, cup, spoon)
Hand expression
General pumping guidance
Weaning
Management of overactive let-down
Handling and storage of human milk
Proper formula preparation

If you have Medicaid, you could be getting FREE lactation support—and most people don’t know this.

I had a long week and realized I forgot to share something important in my last video…🫣

The ATLAS Program exists to make IBCLC lactation support more equitable and accessible - especially for families with Medicaid ✊🏾

If you have Medicaid, you can receive FREE lactation support through this program. All you need is your Medicaid insurance card.

Right now, the fund is available for postpartum families, so if you’re pregnant, you’ll be eligible once your baby arrives.

You can learn more by visiting nylca.org or texting the referral line at 646-397-4640.

Please help spread the word so more families know this resource exists—and if you’re able, consider supporting the fund so it can continue serving our communities. 🤍

Access to quality lactation care shouldn’t be a privilege.

Do you want affordable lactation support??

HAPPY IBCLC DAY!!!!! 🥳🥳🥳

For us, being an IBCLC is not just about helping families feed babies—it’s about  honoring our ethical code and being an important and legitimate member of the healthcare team.

Here’s what we know: if we stand united as IBCLCs, then we can keep predatory corporations out. Because when we build trust and tell the truth, our people choose ethics over corporate dollars, every single time.

This IBCLC Day, we are standing together to say: Our field.  Our credential.  Our voice.

👉🏾 Comment MY STORY to share your story of success, or of sabotage, and let’s reclaim our profession from corporate greed.

I’m an IBCLC and this is my why. 🖤 My people deserve respect, validation, and to be seen as human. Black babies deserve their mother's milk and in order for that to happen, they need competent, high quality care. I provide that 💫

Now we want to hear your why - your story of breastfeeding support, success or of sabotage in the face of predatory formula marketing. 🍼

Drop MY STORY in the comments to be a part of our story collection.

👉🏾 If you haven’t heard, I’m part of a collective of lactation consultants protecting our sacred profession from predatory corporations like Bobbie who are actively recruiting us.

✊🏾 We reach our people first—building relationships, telling the truth, and reclaiming the heart of our work that allows families to access support that is truthful, ethical, and meaningful.

This week, as we lead up to IBCLC Day (which will be my first 🥳) we’re lifting up our stories. The stories of IBCLC success, and the stories of sabotage in the face of targeted formula marketing. If we show up loudly about what matters in our field, we keep predatory corporations out. Because when we build trust and tell the truth, our colleagues choose ethics over corporate dollars, every single time.

👉🏾 Comment MY STORY to share yours, and let’s make IBCLC Day ours.
