Spring always feels like a fresh start and in rehab, we see that feeling come to life every day.

Recovery is not about big dramatic moments. It is about the steady grip on the railing. The extra few steps, the balance that feels a little stronger than it did last week. Those small wins matter more than people realize.

As nurses and caregivers, we are right there for each milestone. Encouraging. Supporting. Celebrating progress that might seem small but means everything to the person taking that step.

This season is a reminder that growth takes time and with the right care and support, forward is always possible.

There’s something special about celebrating together, especially when it involves a little sweetness and a lot of laughter.

Our St. Patrick’s Day was filled with joy as residents came together for Cooking Club to create a delicious sherry trifle from scratch. From layering each ingredient to sharing stories around the table, moments like these remind us that connection is just as nourishing as the food itself.

Simple traditions, shared smiles, and a dessert worth celebrating.

We’re excited to celebrate Nutrition Month by introducing our new Dietitian, Wendy Reith.

Wendy brings a thoughtful and caring approach to nutrition and we’re so happy to have her as part of our team. Her path into dietetics actually started in an unexpected place. She was originally an Art major studying fashion illustration in the late 1980s. When she needed to choose a science course with a lab, she picked nutrition and quickly discovered how much she loved the subject and helping people.

Wendy shared one simple tip for older adults that we all found helpful. As we age, appetite and thirst can decrease, which makes it important to be intentional about nutrition and hydration. She recommends including fruit each day, vegetables regularly, enough protein, and drinking about eight cups of fluids daily to help prevent dehydration.

And yes, even dietitians have comfort foods. Wendy’s favorite is ice cream, just keeping the portion under one cup because serving sizes matter.

When we asked what fruit or vegetable she would be, her answer made us smile. Asparagus. Tall, thin, and high in potassium.

We are so glad Wendy has joined our community and we look forward to the knowledge and care she will bring to our residents.

Today is World Kidney Day, dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of our kidneys and to promote equitable access to care and optimal medication practice for all.
Diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and obesity are major risk factors for kidney disease.
If you have one of these conditions, talk to your doctor about checking your kidney health.

Detecting kidney disease early is essential for preventing complications and improving quality of life.

We are proud to be a health partner and have an onsite dialysis center right here at the Methodist Home to serve the Bronx community. ❤

Music has a beautiful way of bringing generations together. 🎶

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the talented students from the Chamber Music Program at Riverdale Country School, who shared their time and musical gifts with our residents. From the first note to the final bow, the room was filled with warmth, connection, and smiles.

Moments like these remind us how powerful the arts can be in creating joy, sparking memories, and building community across all ages. We are so grateful for their visit and the energy they brought to our home.

Thank you to the incredible students and faculty for making the afternoon so special.

Movement is medicine and when it happens outdoors, its impact goes even further.

Regular movement helps build strength, improve balance, support circulation, and keep the mind engaged. Time outside adds another layer.

Fresh air can lift mood, natural light helps regulate sleep, and being in the sun supports vitamin D levels that play a role in both physical and emotional well-being.

Moments like these reflect a holistic approach to care, where recovery isn’t limited to therapy sessions. It continues through daily experiences that invite connection, joy, and a sense of presence in the world around us.

At The Methodist Home for Nursing + Rehabilitation, supporting recovery means caring for the whole person through movement, community, and time spent outdoors.
