Mother’s Day is a beautiful time to reflect on the many ways care, generosity, and love shape our lives.

At The Methodist Home, we see those values every day in the compassion shown to our residents, families, staff, volunteers, donors, and friends. This year, our Mother’s Day appeal is focused on continuing to grow a very special space in our community: our garden.

Thanks to the generosity of our donor community, we were able to update and enhance the garden last year, transforming it into a more welcoming environment that reflects our mission of compassion, dignity, and quality of life.

Now, we are hoping to build on that success.
Our goal is to raise $25,000 to help expand the use of this newly revived garden throughout the warmer months.

These funds will support comfortable and accessible furnishings, shade coverings, wellness and gentle movement programs, therapeutic and creative activities, outdoor music, sing-alongs, seasonal gatherings, refreshments, and opportunities for peaceful reflection.

More than just a garden, this space can become a place where residents enjoy fresh air, connect with one another, participate in meaningful programs, and experience moments of joy, comfort, and renewal.
Every gift, no matter the size, helps bring this vision to life.

This Mother’s Day, we invite our valued donors and friends to help our garden flourish once again.

Recovering from an injury is a major step forward, but true rehabilitation goes beyond healing what already happened. It’s also about protecting what comes next.

At The Methodist Home for Nursing + Rehabilitation, physical therapy is designed with that bigger picture in mind. While we focus on helping patients regain strength, mobility, and function after illness, injury, or surgery, we also work to identify and address the underlying factors that may have contributed to the injury in the first place.

Through targeted exercises, balance training, and guided movement, our therapists help patients improve stability, coordination, and body awareness. Small adjustments in how someone walks, stands, or transitions from one movement to another can make a meaningful difference in reducing fall risk and preventing future setbacks. It’s not just about getting better. It’s about staying better.

For our short-term rehab patients, this approach builds confidence alongside physical progress. Patients leave not only stronger, but with a deeper understanding of how to move safely and maintain their independence in everyday life.
In our latest blog post, we explore how physical therapy supports long-term safety, reduces the risk of reinjury, and empowers patients to move forward with greater confidence.

There’s something really special about the way a room feels when people come together with intention… and you could feel it in every corner of our April Showers event.

This beautiful afternoon was made possible by our incredible Methodist Home Auxiliary Committee, a group of dedicated volunteers who pour so much heart into creating meaningful moments for our residents all year long.

The ladies you see here are the ones behind the magic… the ones who show up, plan, decorate, organize, and most importantly, care.

Events like these bring more than just smiles. They create connection, spark conversation, and remind everyone that they are part of a vibrant, loving community. You could see it in the laughter, in the little interactions, in the way people lingered just a bit longer to enjoy the moment.

To our Auxiliary Committee, thank you. Truly. Your kindness, time, and energy do not go unnoticed, and they make a lasting difference in the lives of our residents.

Getting out, sharing a meal, and enjoying time together is such an important part of the healing journey.

Our recent outing to a local Chinese restaurant was filled with smiles, laughter, and meaningful connection between our patients and staff. From choosing favorite dishes to simply sitting around the table together, these moments help bring a sense of normalcy, joy, and community.

Experiences like this go beyond recreation. They support social engagement, encourage independence, and remind our patients that life continues to be full of moments worth enjoying.

We’re so grateful to our team for making these outings possible and to our patients for bringing such wonderful energy to every experience.

Regaining independence after a stroke takes time, focus, and support.

It starts with the basics. Standing steady. Strengthening muscles. Practicing balance. Relearning movements that once felt automatic. Each repetition helps the brain and body reconnect. Each small improvement builds confidence.

In rehab, progress is not rushed. It is supported, encouraged, and celebrated and over time, those small steps turn into meaningful independence.

There’s something special about getting your hands in the soil.

Our Planting Program brings residents together to connect, create, and nurture something from the ground up. From preparing the pots to carefully placing each plant, every step becomes a moment of focus, joy, and shared experience. You can feel how something as simple as planting turns into something much deeper… a sense of calm, purpose, and pride in watching life grow right in front of you.

This month felt even more meaningful as we celebrated National Volunteer Month alongside our community. We were so grateful to welcome students from Manhattan University on April 9, who joined us for a volunteer gardening project. Their energy, kindness, and willingness to spend time with our residents added something really special to the day. You could see the connections forming in real time, across generations, through something as simple and beautiful as planting together.

Activities like these do more than pass the time. They support fine motor skills, encourage social connection, and create moments that truly matter. And when those moments are shared with others who show up with heart, they become even more powerful.

We love creating opportunities for our residents to stay engaged, creative, and connected to the simple, meaningful rhythms of life.

Easter Sunday is a beautiful reminder of renewal, hope, and community. As we celebrate today, we’re looking back on special moments from Palm Sunday and the days leading up to Easter, when our community came together in reflection, faith, and joy.

Our Palm Sunday service offered a meaningful time to pause and connect, made even more special by the presence of our wonderful volunteers from Christ Church.

In the days that followed, residents enjoyed creating Easter crafts, filling the room with laughter, creativity, and connection.
These moments, simple yet powerful, bring light into our community and remind us how meaningful it is to share time with one another.

We are so grateful to our Christ Church volunteers for their kindness and for helping make this season so special for our residents.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and joyful Easter.

There’s something about music that reaches places words simply can’t.

We had the true honor of welcoming the Riverdale Choral Society to The Methodist Home for Nursing + Rehabilitation. From the very first note, the room felt lighter, warmer, and deeply connected.

You could see it in the smiles, in the quiet moments of reflection, and in the way our patients and staff were fully present with each song.

Music has a unique way of supporting healing. It brings comfort, sparks memories, and creates a sense of togetherness that is so important in the recovery journey. Moments like these remind us that care goes beyond medicine. It lives in shared experiences, in joy, and in the simple beauty of being together.

We are so grateful to the Riverdale Choral Society for sharing their time, their voices, and their heart with our community. It meant more than words can express.
