It was a at Samaritan Daytop Health! Nearly 40 men and women from Samaritan Daytop Village 's shelters "shopped" for holiday presents with coupons they received from a health visit at our clinic. From ear buds to headphones and jackets to cologne, all gifts at the event were donated. The smiles on everyone's faces were priceless! !

We held another "Nourish & Flourish Fresh Food Fair" this week at The Richard Pruss Wellness Center in the Bronx.

Wellness Ambassador Jamel Lewis led a cooking demo featuring Yummy Yogurt Parfait. Everyone in the audience learned how to make a simple, filling, yet nutritious treat using a few basic ingredients already in their kitchen.

At the Fresh Food Fair, attendees “shopped” for free, nutritious groceries using vouchers they received during a health visit with us or at a Food As Medicine workshop at PARC (Peer Alliance Recovery Center) Bronx.

Thanks to our nutritionist DrElizabeth Madison Registered Dietitian, who shared the recipe and delivered a nutrition lecture at the event.

Grateful to help 100 individuals pick up free, nutritious groceries - just in time for - at Samaritan Daytop Village's Fresh Food Fair at The Richard Pruss Wellness Center in the Bronx.

Shoppers received vouchers after a health visit with us or a Food As Medicine workshop with PARC (Peer Alliance Recovery Center) Bronx.

The event included a healthy cooking demo led by nutritionist Dr. Elizabeth Madison and Wellness Ambassador Jamel Lewis. Their recipe for black bean and corn skillet tacos showed you can indulge while eating healthy! Elizabeth also led a healthy shopping tour to show how you can buy good-for-you foods for specific medical conditions.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a great success, including Cathy Torres and her father, Luis, who donated 25 turkeys to the event. And thank you to Third Avenue Business Improvement District for your support!

Thank you to the nearly 100 patients who came to our Nourish and Flourish Food Fair - Food is Medicine event yesterday! We partnered again with PARC Bronx for an educational, nutritious, and free holiday shopping experience.

Among the high points of the day were:

* Free holiday food shopping using our food vouchers
* Chef Derek showing us how to make some healthy sides like mashed garlic cauliflower
* Nutritious food lectures by Elizabeth Madison Registered Dietitian
* Practice Administrator Desirie Martinez' homemade recipe for sofrito

Every day we strive to help tip the scale against racial and ethnic health inequities.

Many of our patients include African American and Latina women who have higher rates of chronic health conditions like hypertension and diabetes.

Even our work with the homeless shows that the same disparity exists for women in shelters, especially those who may have experienced trauma or are dealing with a mental health or substance use disorder.

That's why our partnership with Samaritan Daytop Village is so satisfying. We recently hosted a Women's Health Fair for patients from two of their family residences and one of their treatment programs.

We provided health education workshops, gave consultations with our Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, introduced them to Creative Arts Therapy, and offered RAPID STI and HIV testing. The day was designed to empower these women to take control of their health and learn which healthcare resources they need to access today and in the future.

Vanessa L. Gibson and Samaritan Daytop Village in a ceremony to honor the 831 lives lost to opioid overdose in the Bronx in 2022.
