Today marks the 72nd Anniversary of Mr. Samuel Granby being struck by Lightning while serving in the United States Army!

It was the 15th Week of Basic Training, Fort Dix, New Jersey, on Hill #24 at 4:00 PM when lightning struck.

During Mr. Granby’s Recovery, He was assigned to the Mortuary Science Unit thus beginning his passion as a Funeral Service Professional and Community Leader! He was only 20 years old.

In 1958, Mr. Samuel Granby began his Professional Career. Granby’s Funeral Service, Inc. was soon after established. In the Granby Family was Blessed to be able to purchase their current location. With the growing support of the communities, the need to expand in 1996 became a reality.

As we enter into our 5th year as ROOTS Rugby Family, we would like to highlight our family that have been making history on and off the field. Without you, we wouldn’t be who we are today. We thank each and every person who has put on a ROOTS jersey whether it be one tour or multiple tours. We pride ourselves on having so many different individuals excelling in so many different ways. We’re excited to share their stories and what better a month to start it off than Black History Month?
