5 HUGE fat burning mistakes.

Which ones are you guilty of?

1. Crash Dieting (extreme calorie restriction):
❌ It stalls your metabolism.
❌ It's unsustainable.
❌ It causes muscle loss.
↗️ And those three cause a yo-yo effect, so you regain fat when eating returns to “normal.”
❌ It creates nutrient deficiencies that cause other problems, too.
👍 Use a smaller caloric deficit and a long-view approach.

2. Lack of Consistency:
❌ It results in weight fluctuations - frustrating!
❌ Inconsistency → minimal muscle gains → minimal metabolic benefit.
❌ No results means no idea what works for you.
👍 Start with adjustments you can maintain. Build upon successes.

3. Ignoring Nutrition:
❌ You can’t out-exercise a bad diet!
❌ Hard to maintain a calorie deficit through exercise alone.
❌ Exercise might cause you to eat MORE.
👍 Eat fewer calories AND exercise.

4. “Spot reducing”:
❌ 1,000 crunches ≠ six pack.
❌ Training the muscle burns calories → calorie deficit → fat loss
❌ Toning the muscle does nothing for the fat covering it.
👍 Exercise the muscle AND cut calories so you can uncover the new muscle tone 💪

5. Skipping resistance training:
❌ We need muscle to keep the fat off.
❌ Cardio-only works but is better with resistance training.
👍 Circuit training rocks! Cycle through different resistance exercises with no rest periods between sets. Cardio AND muscle-building!
❤️ + 💪 = 🔥

Ultimately, the fat-loss program that works best has:
✅ A calorie deficit
✅ An active lifestyle
✅ Sustainable eating habits
✅ A reasonable muscle building program
✅ Tracking and accountability

Good luck!

P.S. I’m always available for guidance if you need help breaking free from any of these!

Want to eat better?

Keep it simple.

Good nutrition doesn't have to be complicated or take a lot of effort.

Check out our latest blog for a list of foods I really do eat every day!

What healthy foods do you make it a point to eat every day?

What foods from this list do you think you can add to your daily routine?

Do you eat flax-crusted baked salmon over a bed of  kale with a blueberry reduction? Neither do I. I eat raw apples, egg omelets and roasted almonds. They're easy and tasty. I don't have time for “fancy healthy.” Do you eat seaweed and Açai berry smoothies? I don't. I would if I liked it

Colorectal cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death for men under 50.

For women under 50, it's the second-most common cause of cancer-related death.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide.

It is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide.

1 in 24 people will develop colon cancer in their lifetimes

But there's good news:

CRC is one of the most treatable diseases when caught in the early stages using timely screening.

The 5-year relative survival rate for stage 1 & 2 colon cancer is 90%. (That's great news.)

Because:

Colorectal cancer usually develops slowly over a period of 10 to 15 years.

Unfortunately:

CRC is often diagnosed at advanced stages when treatment options are limited.

51% of those ages 50-54 are not up to date on their colorectal cancer screening.

Research shows that screening can reduce both the incidence and mortality of CRC through early detection and removal of precancerous growths.

So get screened!

Colonoscopies are the most thorough screening method, and they can help prevent it, too. But speak to your doctor - they might suggest a stool test, which you can do at home.

In addition to timely screening, you can reduce your risk by:
-Maintaining a healthy weight
-Being more active
-Limiting red and processed meats
-Eating more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains
-Limiting alcohol (no alcohol is best)

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

…and now we're more aware.

So let's take action….

Sugar, sugar everywhere. In soda, cookies and….tomato sauce?!? You know added sugar is in donuts and candy but have you seen how much is in yogurt, cereal and fat-free salad dressing? Added sugars in food can really add up to some unhealthy consequences: 👎 higher blood pressure 👎 weight gain

March is National Nutrition Month!

Each year, National Nutrition Month focuses on the significance of mindful food decisions and the cultivation of healthy eating and exercise routines.

This year’s theme is ‘Beyond the Table’ — it encourages us to explore the complete journey of nutrition, from food production and distribution to navigating grocery stores and farmers markets. It also describes the various ways we eat — not only around a dinner table but also on-the-go, in schools and restaurants, or at games and events

'Beyond the Table' also emphasizes sustainability, urging us to reduce food waste at all levels — school, work, home and beyond.

For more information and how you can become involved, visit https://www.eatright.org/national-nutrition-month

It's almost time to SPRING AHEAD!

It's not just about losing an hour of sleep (although that is rough).
The DST change can hurt us. Literally.

Check out our latest blog about the effects the change can have on our bodies and how to mitigate these through small changes and some planning ahead.

Changing the clocks and losing an hour hurts! Literally. Daylight saving time makes our internal clock go haywire, and it all has to do with sleep. It may seem nice to gain an extra hour of daylight in the afternoon and evening, but our body’s 24 hour sleep cycle is healthiest when lined up with d

🛑You could be sabotaging your fitness efforts.🛑

If you’re regularly doing fit activities, you must have a good reason behind it.

Maybe you want to be stronger.
Or faster.
Or thinner.
Maybe you just enjoy golf or tennis and want to play as often as you can.

Whatever the reason, there are some common behaviors that sabotage your fitness.

❓How many of these are you guilty of?
