Thibodaux Regional Swim Team Excels at 2026 Louisiana Senior & Age Group State Championships

The Thibodaux Regional Swim Team (TRST) delivered an impressive showing at the 2026 Louisiana Swimming Short Course State Championships held in February in Baton Rouge. Competing in both the Age Group State Championships and Senior State Championships, TRST swimmers demonstrated exceptional progress, strong finishes, and a remarkable number of personal best performances.

At the Age Group State Championships, TRST swimmers recorded 181 individual swims with 142 personal best times. Several swimmers posted standout performances and reached the podium in their respective events.

Among the highlights:
⭐️Bree Usey (14) captured 1st place in the 200 Backstroke and also earned a 1st place finish in the 50 Backstroke, along with multiple top-three finishes across backstroke and freestyle events.
⭐️Griffin Lecompte (13) delivered a dominant performance in distance freestyle, winning the 1650 Freestyle State Championship and placing 3rd in the 1000 Freestyle, while also competing strongly in butterfly and middle-distance freestyle events.
⭐️Damien Rieucau Normand (11) secured a 3rd place podium finish in the 500 Freestyle dropping 8.56 seconds for a time of 5.42:83
⭐️Rohen Poynter (10) secured 1st place in the 100 Backstroke, highlighting a strong meet with multiple personal best swims.
⭐️Aaden Meacham (10) and Kason Lirette (11) both earned strong podium placements in individual events, contributing to the team’s depth across multiple strokes.
⭐️Mary Albares (13) posted significant improvements, including a 22-second drop in the 500 Freestyle, along with strong performances in butterfly and individual medley events.

In addition to podium finishes, TRST swimmers recorded significant personal best improvements throughout the meet, including major time drops from swimmers such as Hunter Gaubert, Lena Gaubert, Avery Belanger, Noah Rieucau Normand, Zander Stein, Levi Pham, and Everly Allen, showcasing the strength and development of the program across all age groups.

Across the Senior State Championships, TRST athletes recorded 150 individual swims with 93 personal best times. The meet highlighted the continued growth of the program’s senior swimmers as they competed against Louisiana’s top athletes.

Senior State Championship Highlights:
⭐️Leading the charge for TRST was Luke Husbands (17), who captured the Louisiana Senior State Championship in the 50 Freestyle, touching the wall in 20.77 seconds, a personal best performance that places him among the fastest sprint freestylers in the state and meets USA Swimming Sectional-level standards. Husbands’ performance headlined a dominant sprint showing for TRST.
⭐️The Husbands family continued to make its mark as Jonathan Husbands (15) delivered a breakout meet, earning runner-up finishes in the 50 Freestyle and additional podium placements, dropping time and establishing himself as one of the state’s top young sprinters.
⭐️Anthony Lafont (16) also had an exceptional meet, earning multiple top-three finishes in the 50 Freestyle, including a third-place podium finish while posting strong personal best performances in the event.
⭐️Sprint specialist Thomas Daigle (17) delivered one of the most impressive improvement stories of the meet, dropping more than a second from his previous best in the 50 Freestyle with a 20.88 performance, moving him firmly into the Sectional-level range and highlighting the continued development of TRST’s senior sprint group.

Additional strong performances came from:
⭐️Alex Reddoch (19) – posting multiple personal best swims in sprint freestyle events.
⭐️Gavin Pellegrin (16) – delivering notable improvements and strong finishes in the 50 Freestyle.
⭐️Luke Danos (17) – recording a 1.39-second personal best drop, one of the larger improvements of the meet.
⭐️James Cundiff (17) and Joseph Berry (16) – both producing personal best performances in sprint events.

On the women’s side, TRST’s senior girls also demonstrated strong progress and depth.
⭐️Veteran sprinter Ryli Cazenave (17) represented TRST in multiple championship-level heats in the 50 Freestyle, continuing to contribute leadership and experience to the senior squad.
⭐️Audrey Cundiff (15) led the group with a standout performance in the 50 Freestyle, dropping 1.44 seconds to post a 26.07, one of the largest improvements on the team and a strong showing against older competition.
⭐️Allison Patten (16) and Ann Meacham (15) also competed well, adding valuable personal best performances and continuing to build momentum heading into the long course season.

The Senior State results demonstrated the growing strength of the TRST program, particularly in sprint freestyle events where multiple swimmers achieved Sectional-level times or significant progress toward national-level qualifying standards.

Combined with the team’s strong showing at the Age Group State Championships, where younger swimmers produced over 140 personal best swims, the program continues to build a strong pipeline of talent from developing athletes through senior-level competitors.

“The performances we saw at both Age Group and Senior State Championships reflect the dedication our swimmers bring to training every day,” said Coach Fletcher. “Seeing athletes achieve personal bests, earn podium finishes, and reach Sectional-level standards shows the direction our program is heading.”

With continued growth across all age groups and a growing presence at the state championship level, the Thibodaux Regional Swim Team continues to establish itself as one of Louisiana’s premier competitive swim programs.
