Friends and family will be received at the Cathedral of Saint Francis de Sales on Tuesday December 30, 2025 from 10:00 am until service time. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Saint Francis de Sales Cemetery #2.

Grief During the First Christmas After Loss

The first Christmas after the loss of a loved one can feel especially heavy. Traditions may feel different, joy may come in waves—or not at all—and moments meant for celebration can bring tears instead. This is normal.

Grief doesn’t follow a schedule, and there is no “right” way to experience the holidays after loss. It’s okay if you don’t decorate. It’s okay if you do. It’s okay to step away from gatherings, and it’s okay to create new traditions—or hold tightly to old ones.

This season may look different, and that’s okay. Love and grief often walk hand in hand, and honoring your feelings is part of healing. Be gentle with yourself. Your loved one is still part of your Christmas, carried in your heart, your memories, and your love.

Phil Anthony Schexnayder, a beloved and cherished member of his community, was called to the home of his father on December 10, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on January 26, 1950, in Houma, Louisiana.

A visitation will be held at Ordoyne Funeral Home on Sunday December 14,2025 at Ordoyne Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and will continue on Monday December 15,2025 at St. Bridget Catholic Church from 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Francis de Sales #2 Cemetery.
