The first three months of life are full of changes — but some feeding struggles are more than just a phase.

Parents are often told “wait and see,” but certain signs are important to notice early.

👶 Frequent coughing or choking, very long feeds, constant clicking or leaking, extreme tension, poor weight gain, or a tongue that rests low in the mouth are all clues that feeding may need extra support.

These red flags don’t mean anything is “wrong” with your baby — they simply mean their little system needs a bit more help to organize and feel successful.

💛 The earlier we recognize the signs, the sooner we can build stronger, calmer, more confident feeds.

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

In feeding therapy, we always start with foundations first.

Before we worry about ounces, schedules, or milestones, we look at the basics — posture, tension, tongue movement, pacing, and coordination.

If those pieces aren’t supported, feeding will always feel harder than it needs to be.

👶 Real progress happens when we build skills from the ground up. Strong foundations lead to calmer feeds, better organization, and more confident parents.

It’s not about rushing the process.
It’s about setting baby up for long-term success.

💛 When the foundation is solid, everything else gets easier.

One thing I always look at first?
A baby’s mouth at rest.

When the mouth is relaxed and not feeding, we want to see the tongue resting up on the palate — not flat, low, or pushing forward.

👶 Tongue elevation at rest supports proper oral motor development, jaw stability, airway support, and efficient feeding patterns. It’s a foundational skill that impacts bottle feeds, breastfeeding, and later transitions to solids.

If the tongue is consistently low at rest, it can be a sign that the mouth is working harder than it should.

💛 The good news? These patterns can be supported early with the right guidance and exercises.

✨ Here 👇 comment “SIDE” to get guided support, through my online guides, for calmer, more organized feeds ✨

Side-lying is one of my most recommended feeding positions in therapy — and for good reason!

When a baby struggles with bottle coordination, fast flow, or stress during feeds, positioning matters more than most parents realize.

👶 Side-lying allows the infant to regulate milk flow, pace more safely, and activate the correct oral motor patterns. It reduces airway overwhelm, supports jaw and tongue coordination, and helps the nervous system stay more organized during feeding.

A more organized body leads to
a more organized feed!!

💛 And when feeds feel calmer for baby, they feel calmer for parents too.

This was baby’s second time taking a bottle.
Not perfect. Still work to do.
But a HUGE step forward.

When bottle feeding has been difficult, parents often feel stuck — trying different ni***es, positions, pacing… and still feeling unsure if it’s actually helping.

👶 But once we support what the baby’s mouth and body truly need, things start to change. With the right strategies, baby can feed with less stress, better coordination, and more ease — and mom can finally breathe.

💛 This bottle wasn’t just about intake.
It was about peace of mind.
And that matters.

This is the progress we love to see!
Less clicking, less air intake during bottle feeds, and a much calmer, happier baby overall. Feeding no longer feels rushed or stressful — it feels smoother, more coordinated, and more comfortable for everyone involved.

👶 By following the steps inside The Feeding Connections Collection, this family was able to make simple but meaningful changes that supported better oral motor function, improved suction, and more efficient feeds. When the mouth and body are supported correctly, babies don’t have to work so hard to eat.

💛 That calm, content baby afterward? That’s what happens when feeding finally clicks.

✨Here 👇 comment “MORE” to get the link to our Oral Motor Guide and learn how to support your baby’s mouth and feeding skills with confidence!✨

Seeing your baby with an open mouth posture can feel confusing — sometimes it’s completely normal, and sometimes it’s an important clue. When the mouth rests open and the tongue stays low, it can affect how efficiently a baby feeds, breathes, and uses their oral muscles.

👶 The mouth is designed to rest closed with the tongue up. When that pattern isn’t happening consistently, babies may work harder during feeds, fatigue faster, or rely on compensations to get through a bottle or breastfeed.

💛 Our Oral Motor Guide teaches parents what to look for, why it matters, and how to gently support better tongue position, lip closure, and oral motor coordination using simple, therapist-approved techniques you can do at home.

You may need to provide kids with ADHD-like symptoms with…

Modifications in the classroom can help make learning less frustrating and overwhelming for both you and the child.

No matter if you are a teacher or a parent who has a child in need of some adjustments to support their individual learning needs, we have some suggestions.

Some of these may seem simple, but can make all the difference in the child’s successes throughout the year.

Children with ADHD or ADHD-like symptoms, may need adjustments when it comes to:

🤷Focusing on tasks and instructions given in the classroom
🤷Limiting distractions in the classroom
🤷Providing breaks or ways to move to calm the body
🤷Additional attention or check-ins from teachers

There are many modifications that can be made for the child based on their individual needs. Teachers, parents and therapists can work together to find out the best way the child can learn.

For a general idea, grab this free download of modifications by grabbing the link below or clicking it in our profile.
