Ashley is a Certified Nurse Midwife who is deeply committed to caring for women throughout every stage of life and advocating for women’s health and well-being. She offers full-scope midwifery care, including gynecologic services, prenatal care, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care. ✨

Shortness of breath and trouble walking brought Robert Drain to Upson Regional Medical Center—but the diagnosis was even more alarming: his heart was working at just 25%. Knowing he needed to act fast, Robert committed to a new lifestyle with the support of his cardiologist, Edward Adeniyi, M.D.

Did you know that losing weight can help bring down your blood pressure? Just by losing 10 pounds, your blood pressure lowers as much as 5-8 points. 💗

Here are some tips to help you get started:

🚶‍➡️ Aim for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise each week (i.e. brisk walking, dancing, riding a bike, etc.)

🥦🍎 Follow the D.A.S.H. Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) by eating veggies, fruits, lean meats, whole grains, beans, and nuts. Limit sugar, sodium, full-fat dairy products, and red meat.

Your heart health starts with your plate! 🍽️ The D.A.S.H. Diet is a great way to improve your cardiovascular wellbeing. 💕It stands for:

D - dietary
A - approach to
S - stop
H - hypertension

These foods are rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, fiber, and protein. They are low in sodium, saturated and trans fats, and sugar. By following the D.A.S.H. Diet, you can naturally lower your blood pressure by up to 5 points! 💗

✅ Fill half of your plate with veggies.
✅ Eat lean white meat.
✅ Increase your intake of whole grains.
✅ Use olive oil to cook with.
✅ Go for grilled or baked chicken.
🚫 Stay away from red meat and fatty meats.
🚫 Avoid sugar-sweetened drinks, like soda.
🚫 Don't eat fried food.

This partnership means that most cancer services will be delivered locally at URMC by City of Hope’s highly trained, board-certified physicians, allowing patients in the Thomaston region to access comprehensive cancer care, including treatments, chemotherapy, and telemedicine, within their community.
