When questions need answers, she is always quick to get to the answer. She is always willing to fix an issue, provide education where needed and cover shifts on the floor if no one else is available. We are proud of our nursing staff for the work they do to train and mentor the next generation of nurses. Mary Bracey, RN, left an impression on one SRTC student who shared these comments about her preceptorship:

"I am an SRTC Nursing student in my last semester, currently in Labor and Delivery. During my preceptorship, my preceptor was Mary Bracey, RN, in Labor and Delivery, and she was nothing short of amazing. She was an incredible mentor who demonstrated patience, advocacy, and deep compassion to every patient. Working with her has been one of the most meaningful parts of my nursing education. She helped me build my confidence, tighten my clinical skills, and her kindness stood out above everything else. Thank you, Mary, for making being a student feel good again."

Archbold is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Newman, PharmD, MSHA, as the health system’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Newman has worked full-time at Archbold for more than twenty years, most recently as Vice President of Clinical and Support Services.

He attended pharmacy school at the University of Georgia and earned his Master of Science degree in healthcare administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

Newman first worked at Archbold as a pharmacy student in 1998 and began working full-time as a Clinical Pharmacist in 2004. Since then, he has served in many roles at Archbold, including Assistant Director of Pharmacy, Director of Pharmacy and Vice President of Ancillary Services.

"It is truly an honor to serve the community that I grew up in,” said Newman. “My first job in healthcare was here at Archbold, and I hope to continue to uphold our mission to serve patients and staff in a way that creates a culture of family and compassion.”

Newman and his wife, Emily, live in Thomasville with their three children.

“Chris brings with him a wealth of experience in healthcare operations and a deep commitment to the values that define Archbold,” said Darcy Craven, Archbold President and CEO. “I am confident that his leadership in this new role will continue to drive operational excellence and support our long-term goals.”

Newman’s promotion comes after the retirement of Jim Carter, who served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since 2015. Archbold thanks Jim for more than two decades of dedicated service to our system and his commitment to supporting Archbold’s patients and mission each day.

His nomination reads, “With more than 34 years of service, Lyndon has contributed to keep both of our facilities and grounds beautiful and clutter free. With a rather quiet demeanor, he approaches his duties and completes his responsibilities without hesitation. He is willing to assist and lend a hand where and when needed. He greets every resident with a help or good morning. He ensures that the staff at long-term care have what they need on hand to care for the residents. He is a pleasure to work with and an awesome Archbold team member!”

Her nomination reads, “Alyssa is being nominated for Employee of the Quarter for her dedication to continuing education. Alyssa has stepped up in the past few months to the role of charge nurse and nurse preceptor. She has welcomed both of these roles with open arms and an open mind. She takes the time to fully absorb information to help better her patients’ care. Educating staff has been a priority of hers, and she takes the time to make sure they understand. Precepting is a new role for her and she has taken it on with such grace. Alyssa’s preceptee is flourishing in her new role and demonstrates the efforts Alyssa has given to make her ready for her time in our ED. We look forward to a bright future ahead with Alyssa on our Archbold Mitchell team.”

Congratulations to Julie Martin, RN, IMCU, for being named Archbold Memorial’s Employee of the Quarter for Nursing for the second quarter of 2025!

Her nomination read, “She is a nurse’s nurse! She leaves no stone unturned in caring for her patients and triple checks every detail. This sounds impossible to do, but she is adamant in her duties and her work ethic is incomparable. She is instrumental in orienting new nurses to critical care for these reasons and more. Not only does she know how to navigate difficult conversations with patients and family members, but is especially effective with physicians also. She is definitely a role model we should all strive to emulate.”
