In light of September being Recovery Month, here are some facts about recovery to educate and motivate those struggling with substance abuse!

1. Genetics and environment can account for 40-60% of a person’s risk of addiction.

2. Teenagers and people who suffer from mental health conditions are at an increased risk for drug use/addiction than others.

3. Addiction is a complex condition that affects the way the brain and body function. It has nothing to do with the “willpower” to stop.

4. Sometimes relapse is apart of treatment.

5. Common Treatment approaches include Medications, Behavioral therapy, and Holistic support, but treatment isn’t generalizable; there are many paths to recovery.

Recovery IS possible! Don’t give up on yourself or your loved ones! 💛
