These “somewhat cute” stuffed critters are meant to represent demodex, a species of mite which can infest human eyelashes. The stuffed (and thus more tolerable representation) version of these creatures now live in our exam rooms as a more palatable way to explain infestations to patients. Believe us when we say that the stuffed version is less disturbing than referencing an actual photograph of demodex!
