Prevention: Building Mental Health Support in Our Schools
Did you know that schools are often the first place students and families turn to for mental health support? This is why prevention efforts in schools are critical to breaking the cycle of trauma before it deepens.
School mental health teams play a vital role in early intervention and creating environments where healing can begin:
School Psychologists: Conduct evaluations, provide interventions, and implement school-wide mental health programming
School Counselors: Deliver mental health support and help students achieve academic and career goals
School Social Workers: Provide interventions, connect families to resources, and engage in crisis support
Teachers: Implement social-emotional learning and create trauma-informed classrooms
Deans & Behavior Specialists: Develop behavior plans that address underlying needs
When we invest in school-based mental health, we reach children before trauma becomes generational. Prevention isn't just about stopping harm—it's about building resilience and ensuring every child has the support they need to thrive.
