For the past few days I have stumbled through various edits of what you are about to read (if you chooses to read it), and I hope that this is a good place to start.

I have had so many thoughts, so many difficult conversations and so much sadness, anger and embarrassment, but none of that will ever match what the Black and Brown Communities have felt and gone through for centuries.

I’m tired of reading statuses and comments with All Lives Matter or minimizing Black and Brown Trauma. This all comes from people who I want to believe have good intentions, but are uneducated and scared. For once, fellow White People: Take a seat. Stop speaking out of turn. Open your hearts and listen (or read) carefully to the words of our Black and Brown Community Members. Give them space to be heard and find out where your talents and skills can be used to be supportive.

I have made a pledge to myself to get an education - the real history. I’m starting small and invite others to join me. There are books and POC-owned bookstores I will buy from, one at a time, to start absorbing and processing this information. If anyone is interested in reading and learning together, please reach out.

I believe that I can best serve my local community by utilizing my skills as a therapist. I am here and I am a safe person for anyone who may need support during this time. I will not and have never tolerated hate in my office for anyone - this includes individuals with disabilities, transgender, gender expansive, gay, le***an and bi individuals and beyond.

And, for those individuals who struggle with fears and phobias around these various groups, know that my space is sacred for you as well, to unlearn, re-educate and find your kindness and compassion. I welcome you to connect with me.

As a community, there is so much more we can do. Let’s get moving, keep the momentum going and refuse to stop until Black and Brown lives are part of All Lives Matter. ❤️

Yes! All that negativity - even as a joke - sinks in. It becomes our reality. A reality self-hate is not easy to unravel, but it can be done!

An exercise to try: When you hear that negative voice in your head, turn it around with positive progressive words.

Use “I am” statements. “I am.. beautiful, healthy, kind, full of life, fun..”

Or try “I love (or like)” statements. “I love eating healthy, being patient, doing burpees, looking at myself in the mirror..”

Every time you tweak that negative voice, you give yourself the incredible gift of self-love, like a big hug for your brain. Who doesn’t love big brain hugs?

This week was really something — intense ups and downs. I was riding a roller coaster of professional and personal stuff, and somehow made it to the finish line.

Life as a therapist is very unpredictable. I was struggling with a nasty cold, and worried that I wouldn’t be able to do it — but somehow a lot of magic happened in that office of mine.

This week was a great reminder of why I do what I do. It was the refresh that I needed. From the vulnerability to the tears, and the many “lightbulb” head-to-heart connections that were made, I am deeply honored to be a part of the growth of such beautiful humans.

The picture above was a creation offered to me by an amazing artist. I adore elephants, and it’s obvious when you are in my space. Now, I have another to add to the wall. A beautiful piece that lights up the room and will bring peace to everyone who gets to view it.
