Registration for our November Grief Support Group and Hike on Saturday, November 29th is now OPEN! We will meet at the ThorpeWood Lodge at 9am. 🌿

These monthly grief support groups and hikes are offered at no cost through a partnership between ThorpeWood and The Umbrella Project. Facilitated by a professional grief counselor, each 90-minute support group is followed by an optional hour-long hike of moderate intensity.

Our Nature on Tap series is back at RAK Brewing Co. tonight, November 11th at 6pm!

Matt Benedict, a Herpetologist from the National Aquarium will be teaching us about the cool turtle species you can find in Maryland. 🐢🐢

Come one, come all to ThorpeWood's first ever Holiday Gift Swap Bazaar! This unique event is an opportunity to prepare for the giving season without participating in consumer culture AND to give old items new life.

This event is free to participate in, though a cash gift wrapping station will be available. All proceeds go to ThorpeWood.

We’re thrilled to share that FCPS students have begun another successful EcoTherapy semester! Together, we’ve spent time connecting with our friendly farm animals and taking on some exciting team-building challenges. These experiences have been a wonderful way to lean into the beauty of the fall season and to build new connections with one another.

A huge thank-you to our amazing volunteers who make these programs possible — your support helps us create meaningful experiences for every student who visits! 💚🍂

Please join us for our November Nature on Tap Speaker Series - A Maryland Turt-orial: Quick Guide to Slow Strollers on Tuesday, November 11 at RAK Brewing Co. 🐢🐢

Matthew Benedict, a Senior Herpetologist at The National Aquarium will teach us about turtle species identification, what to do when you encounter a turtle, options for "homes outside the shell", and other fun facts.

The event starts at 6pm, but get there early to grab a seat! You won't want to miss this one! 🌿🍻

Join us at the ThorpeWood Lodge for our Annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 6th and Sunday, December 7th from 2-7pm! 🎄🎅

Come soak in the holiday spirit surrounded by the beauty of the Catoctin Mountains. Enjoy hot cider, live music, festive decorations, kids' crafts, our beautiful Christmas tree, a cookie potluck, and good company as we celebrate the season together. Santa will also be visiting us both days from 3-5pm.

This is a FREE event! Just bring your favorite cookies to share! Registration is not required to attend - just come when you want, and bring friends!

🌿 Join us for a Nature Journaling Workshop! ✏️

This Sunday, we’re teaming up with Frederick County Public Libraries again to explore the beauty of the natural world through journaling. Whether you’re a seasoned journaler or just starting out, this workshop is a chance to slow down, connect with nature, enjoy the fall foliage, and capture your reflections on paper.

All you need to do is bring your curiosity, a journal if you have one (we have a limited number to share), and a love for the outdoors!

We just wrapped up our annual Healing Ourselves & Our Planet (HOOP) Retreat, part of our climate hope program. 🌱

Over the weekend, participants gathered in fellowship to explore difficult emotions around the environmental crises, learn ways to cope, and find ways to channel those feelings into action. We hiked, enjoyed an eco-somatic workshop with the amazing The Mind-Body Way , planted pawpaws and slippery elm, shared stories, and celebrated the power of community. And an extra special thing: some of our HOOP alums from other cohorts joined us for lunch and a service project on Sunday.

HOOP is more than a retreat or an 8-week class - it’s a supportive community of people connecting deeply with each other and with the planet. Everyone left feeling inspired, grounded, and ready to carry this work forward.

Life has been busy on the property, but we didn’t want to let another day go by without recognizing Cory for his incredible work over the past year! 🌿

As ThorpeWood’s Property Manager, Cory keeps our grounds and facilities looking beautiful. He approaches every task with a perpetual positive attitude, a willingness to help, and a calm, friendly energy that makes him a joy to work with.

Cory gets along with everyone (human and animal alike!) and brings heart and humor to everything he does. Thank you, Cory, for the care, teamwork, and positivity you have brought to ThorpeWood every day! 💚
