ThorpeWood is a 155-acre mountain retreat located in the Catoctin Mountains near Thurmont, MD. Our beautiful setting of forests, meadows, an arboretum, wetlands, and native trout streams provides a tranquil location for our primary mission – to be the "natural resource" choice for area non-profits exploring nature, retreating, and learning with horses. Also, ideal for corporate retreats, wedding, anniversaries, birthdays, etc.

Registration for our December Grief Support Group and Hike on Saturday, December 27th is now OPEN! We will meet at the ThorpeWood Lodge at 9am. 🌿

These monthly grief support groups and hikes are offered at no cost through a partnership between ThorpeWood and The Umbrella Project. Facilitated by a professional grief counselor, each 90-minute support group is followed by an optional hour-long hike of moderate intensity.

Our Annual Holiday Open House was truly something special this year! The lodge was filled with fellowship, festive music, the scent of warm cider, and the joyful energy of kids diving into holiday crafts. Families gathered by the fire, friends reconnected, and laughter echoed through every corner — and of course, Santa brought pure magic to the weekend.

Our Tree Light Contest was an exciting one this year — we had seven people guess within just 100 lights of the total! A huge congratulations to Allie Wilks, whose guess of 7,046 lights came the closest to the actual number of 7,100.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful Santas, talented musicians, and all of our incredible volunteers. Your time, spirit, and generosity made this event unforgettable. We truly couldn’t have done it without you!

Join us for a special event to lean into the colder season and nurture our bodies. Rooted in Movement will take place on December 20th from 1-4pm at our lodge. We'll engage in playful movement exercises, guided stretch, yoga, and experiment with silk fans. 🧘‍♀️
