Happy National Public Health Week! 🩺🦠🧑‍⚕️

As we celebrate, take a moment to recognize how public health has improved our daily lives, safeguarded our families, expanded our life spans, and strengthened our communities. This week is also a chance to honor the public health workers who show up for us every day — and to advocate for policies and practices that promote good health for all. 💪

So far in the 21st century, public health has achieved (not ranked in a particular order):

▪ Cancer screening recommendations to reduce mortality
▪ Lead exposure prevention - fewer children have elevated blood lead levels
▪ HIV control - pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and other HIV treatments have lowered transmission rates and reduced mortality from HIV
▪ Public health preparedness and response
▪ Occupational safety
▪ Expansion of newborn screenings
▪ Prevention and control of infectious diseases - reduction in tuberculosis, better diagnostic tools for various diseases
