Hypermobility is often thought of as being double jointed, which nobody is truly double jointed or very flexible, which is true, but what people do not realize is that it can be accompanied by a lot of pain, because the muscles are still very tight causing a lot of pain.

One way to test if you have muscle tension is if you are ticklish, because being ticklish is a pain response and if you get rid of the muscle tension the ticklishness will be gone as well.

Hypermobility is probably under diagnosed and when it is diagnosed it may depend on what type of doctor.

A rheumatologist may diagnose it as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and geneticist may diagnose it as Joint Hypermobility Syndrome and some doctors may just diagnose it as being normal.

Studies have shown that up to 71% of children under 8 and 55% of 4-14 year olds are hypermobile (de Inocencio et al, 2004).
