The truth is that plastic nursery pots generally can never be recycled.
So the best option is to exchange them within your local community!
We facilitate a plastic nursery pot exchange at our shop.
Due to the vast array of different plastics and dyes, a large percentage of nursery pots are simply non-recyclable. Those that could technically be, often still aren’t due to soil and chemical input residues.
Sometimes it may seem like you’re swimming in more plastic nursery pots than the world could ever need. But the reality is that somewhere there are always a lot of people in need of them.
The solution is to exchange pots for free within your local community.
At our shop, right near the front door, we have a plastic nursery pot exchange bin.
Feel free to drop off any unneeded plastic pots or seed starting modules there anytime during our store hours.
If you’re looking for more pots, stop by, check the pile and take any that you think you can use.
The amount of pots in the pile changes drastically over each week, so check by a few different times if you need a lot.
Recycling requires the use of even more fossil fuels, and so the ideal solution, if ever possible, is always to simply redistribute and reuse what already exists.
Please support us in reducing the number of plastic pots that end up in landfills and drop off your pots with us instead of throwing them away.
And be sure to first check out our free nursery pot exchange bin before you go buy brand new ones.
