Reishi is an amazing and versatile medicinal mushroom! 😎

❇ Reishi can stimulate and modulate the immune system, which makes it useful for a number of indications. It's a strong antiviral, and cytotoxic to tumor cells (antineoplastic)!
❇ Reishi is a tonic for the cardiovascular system by lowering blood pressure and balancing blood sugar and cholesterol.
❇ Reishi is also liver protective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and an adaptogen (stress modulating).
❇ Reishi has been traditionally referred to as the mushroom of spiritual potency and used for longevity.

Please consult a health professional before taking medicinal herbs. If you would like to learn more about Reishi and if it's right for you, please contact our office to schedule a consultation.

Interested in knowing where you are with your own hormone levels? A number of symptoms can relate to hormone imbalance.

Hormones are messengers that relay information between different organ systems- they do so much in the body. If our hormones are out of balance, it can disrupt our growth and development, reproduction, immunity, metabolism and blood sugar. Our genetics and micronutrient levels can affect how well hormones are used, how they are produced, and how fast they break down. Optimizing our hormone levels is important, not only for how we feel, but how our bodies function.

Hormone imbalance can be due to underlying conditions that must be addressed in addition to management of hormone levels.

If you have concerns about your hormone levels and individual needs, please contact the front desk to schedule an appointment. (503) 894-9118

What is inflammation?

Inflammation is the underlying biological response to disease. Inflammation is a key piece of immune function. It's a protective immune response that signals the body to eliminate the source of cell injury or infection.

Inflammation is an important component to healing when it's acute, but chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is when the insult to the cell is not removed properly and more and more inflammation occurs. Essentially, it's when your immune system is not functioning optimally.

There are strategies in naturopathic medicine for improving detoxification, removing underlying sources and contributing factors, and optimizing immune response that can be implemented to improve overall immune health and lessen the inflammation.

If you are curious how this approach can address your individual health needs, please contact the front desk to schedule a consultation. (503) 894-9118

Why is heart health so important?

There are many factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease, such as consuming a standard American diet consisting of refined foods that are high in sugar, sedentary lifestyle, and stress.

The heart is a muscle that pumps oxygenated blood carrying nutrients throughout the body. The heart and circulatory system require certain nutrients for blood building and function, including: omega fatty acids, antioxidants, CoQ10, magnesium, B12, and iron.

Here is a list of some heart healthy foods to eat and why they are good for you
**extra virgin olive oil and fish- contains health fatty acids
**leafy green vegetables- contains nitrates, b vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants
**beans- contains fiber and iron
**berries- rich in antioxidants and vitamins

There are many medicinal plants and herbs that have a variety of benefits that influence heart health. Here is a list of a few of my favorites
**Garlic (Allium sativum)- cardioprotective, reduces cholesterol, reduces LDL oxidation, lowers blood pressure, and inhibits platelet aggregation
**Hawthorne berry (Crataegus oxycantha)- cardiotonic, anti-arrhythmic, antioxidant, and used for a number of cardiac-related conditions
**Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)- antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, venous tonic, and vasoprotective
**Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum)- anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous, venotonic, and vasoprotective

Take care of your heart! Please consult a medical professional before using a medicinal plant to assess if it's right for you.

Micronutrients are involved in so many processes in the body they can easily be depleted with certain conditions, physical or emotional stress, poor absorption from the foods we eat, and the processing of certain drugs or hormones.

Here are five common prescriptions and some of the nutrients that can be depleted.
-NSAIDs, like ibuprofen, can deplete folic acid, vitamin C, and iron
-Antibiotics can deplete a myriad of B vitamins, zinc, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin K
-Conjugated estrogens and bio-Identical hormones can deplete B6, B12, vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and folic acid
-Antacids can deplete folic acid, vitamin D, zinc, calcium, magnesium, chromium, and iron
-Antidepressants can deplete CoQ10 and vitamin B2

Nutrition is vital for health and wellbeing. A whole foods diet rich in fruits and vegetables provide a cornucopia of these micronutrients that are so easily depleted.

Do things seem to “stick” in your gut? Adhesions are a kind of scar tissue that can form in your gut (or elsewhere), sticking tissue together and creating blockage.

They usually form because of surgery, trauma, or inflammation.

Thankfully, a practice called visceral therapy (or visceral manipulation) can gently break up these adhesions.

Visceral therapy can help hiatal hernia, stuck diaphragm or ileocecal valve, some types of SIBO, IBS, overall movement, and more.

My guest Dr. Jason Wysocki shares everything you need to know on today’s podcast! Don’t miss it!

Not only does 8 Hearts Health & Wellness provide Breath Testing at our on-site "SIBO Lab," but we also provide Heidelberg pH testing.

Heidelberg Testing assesses stomach acid levels at rest, as well as the functional capacity of parietal cells (i.e., the cells in your stomach that produce acid) when they are “challenged” to produce more stomach acid by meals.

Could knowing your stomach pH and the ability to reacidify be the missing link to getting to the bottom of your digestive issues? As a physician, could this data help clarify and guide treatment options for patients?

CLICK the link below or call our office directly for more information about our Heidelberg pH Testing!
