Washington Gardens Memory Care Residence

Washington Gardens Memory Care Residence Welcome to Washington Gardens Memory Care & Assisted Living community located in Tigard, Oregon.

An active lifestyle, such as one filled with walking outdoors or making meals with others, is beneficial for those with memory loss because it helps with sensory stimulation and procedural memory skills. Our SPARK program is inspired by the Montessori methods and helps support residents with skills based and social focused activities. Here at Washington Gardens, we strive to provide the best assisted living and memory care to our residents, and give them the most comfortable and enjoyable lifestyle we can.

A New Friendship in the Cards ♠️♥️ When Stephanie recently moved into Washington Gardens, she mentioned that she’d always wanted to learn how to play solitaire. Jane, a member of our Welcoming Committee, heard about it and quickly stepped in to help. Before long, the two were sitting together as Jane patiently showed Stephanie how the game works—one card at a time.

Moments like this are a wonderful reminder of how residents help make Washington Gardens feel like home. A simple conversation turned into a shared activity, a little learning, and the start of a new connection.

It’s also a great example of the spirit behind our SPARK program—paying attention to what residents are interested in and turning those interests into meaningful experiences. In this case, it started with a deck of cards and a neighbor willing to share her time.

When the Room Starts Singing 🎶 Accordionist Phil Hall had Washington Gardens humming along as he played a set full of everyone’s favorite songs. The familiar melodies quickly turned the afternoon into a singalong, with residents recognizing tune after tune.

When Phil launched into “She’ll Be Coming ’Round the Mountain When She Comes,” Sherry broke into a wide smile and happily sang along, knowing every word. Moments like that—when music takes over the room and everyone joins in—are what make these performances so special.

Getting Ready for St. Patrick’s Day 🍀 Dianna and RD have been busy bringing a little Irish spirit to Washington Gardens as they decorated the bulletin board around the wall calendar with bright green shamrocks. Dianna carefully traced and cut out each shamrock, taking her time to make sure they were just right.

RD added a thoughtful touch by suggesting that residents’ names be written on the shamrocks, along with the cheerful message “Lucky To Be Here.” The display is already bringing smiles and helping build excitement for St. Patrick’s Day.

Stronger Brains. Safer Steps. 🧠👣
Most falls don’t happen during exercise — they happen in real-life moments like turning to greet someone or talking while walking. That’s why fall prevention is evolving.
It’s not just about stronger legs — it’s about strengthening the connection between the brain and body. Cognitive-Motor Integration (CMI) helps residents safely manage movement and thinking at the same time, leading to better balance responses, increased confidence, and reduced fear of falling.
We’re proud that our valued partner, Select Rehabilitation, is hosting a complimentary webinar:

Sweet as a Rainbow 🌈🍡 Residents at Washington Gardens had a colorful time creating rainbow marshmallow skewers from scratch. They mixed food coloring into bowls of sugar, dipped fluffy marshmallows into each vibrant shade, and carefully stacked them together on skewers to build their own edible rainbows.

RD was especially diligent, focused on mixing the red food coloring into sugar until it reached just the right hue. Across the table, Nancy proudly held up her finished rainbow skewer, smiling at the bright, cheerful treat she helped create.

Hands-on activities like this invite creativity, concentration, and a little bit of sweetness, too. Through our SPARK program, we design experiences that reflect residents’ interests and support engagement, turning simple recipes into shared moments and colorful memories.

A Little Luck (and a Lot of Heart) in Every Shamrock ☘️ St. Patrick’s Day is on the horizon, and Dianna and Jane are helping us get ready in the very best way—by tracing and cutting out shamrocks to brighten our halls. What started as a simple arts and crafts project quickly turned into an afternoon full of laughter, focus, and meaningful conversation.

Dianna was all smiles as she carefully shaped her shamrocks, clearly enjoying both the creativity and the company. Jane worked with steady determination, taking her time to make each one just right. Activities like this support fine motor skills and concentration, but just as importantly, they create space for connection and pride in a job well done.

Through our SPARK program, we tailor each activity to meet residents where they are—offering opportunities that feel purposeful, engaging, and joyful. Whether it’s decorating for a holiday or reminiscing about St. Patrick’s Days gone by, these moments help keep traditions alive in ways that feel personal and meaningful.

We can’t wait to see their beautiful shamrocks bringing a little extra luck to Washington Gardens this season! ☘️

Sweet Celebrations & Slices of Something Special 🎂🍫 Our recent Birthday Social at Washington Gardens was made even sweeter with a rich chocolate cake that quickly became the highlight of the afternoon. Kathy graciously helped cut and serve each slice before sitting down to enjoy a well-earned piece herself, taking part in the celebration she helped make possible.

Love Is in the Air at Washington Gardens! 💗🎈
Last week at Washington Gardens, Dianna and Nancy spent an afternoon getting ready for Valentine’s Day by creating cheerful balloon bouquets to brighten the community. With colorful balloons, plenty of laughter, and a shared sense of purpose, the activity brought smiles not only to them, but to everyone who passed by.
Moments like these are part of our SPARK program, which is designed to match activities to each resident’s interests and abilities. By focusing on what brings joy and meaning to each person, SPARK helps turn simple projects—like making Valentine’s decorations—into experiences filled with connection, creativity, and heart.
The balloons may be light, but the joy they bring is truly uplifting.
