“You can have language without having speech….

Though related, speech and language are different…
Communication is always the first goal”

This is by far the most common question I get asked as a speech language pathologist. What exactly is the difference between speech and language?

I have some really big and fun ideas to incorporate dramatic play and sensory bins into speech-language therapy for my Fall lessons!

But I need BIG help!!
Below is a link to a wish list of items that would make this possible for my students if you are able to buy an item or two!

Other items I can’t add to an Amazon list that I really need are
🍁 pumpkins in various sizes- but mostly a few bigger ones
🍁 artificial hay bales (could borrow and return)

Thank you so much for considering! Shipping when purchasing on the wish list can sometimes be delayed… If you have Amazon prime, and want to just purchased item that way, I’m using the school address to receive the items

Please feel free to share 💛🤎❤️

Spending the day in professional development learning about tools, resources, and benefits of using AAC to address speech-language needs!

Can’t wait to go back next week and use what I gained today with my little learners! 💜

When I talk about how amazing AAC is - I’m often asked, “but who can benefit from this?” And “who needs AAC?” - and it’s hard to give blanket statements because AAC should be decided on an individualized basis - but and I teamed up to give you some ideas for when to seek an AAC eval!

Note: we wanted to give more specifics but it’s hard because every child is different! If a child has less than 50 words at 2.5 years, we recommend considering an AAC eval!

It is time to start preparing for year TEN!

As I get ready for the new school year, I would love help purchasing items from my wish list!

From writing IEPs,meeting with parents, leading our sped team, running speech/language groups, and using play based therapy to encourage communication— all of these items will help me in my classroom to do the job in some way! ❤️

A wonderful profession!

Today is National Speech-Language Pathologist Day!
I am thankful for the many SLPs that devoted time to my learning and education, fellow SLPs that inspire and lead, and the opportunity to be a school-based SLP!

Some days can be tough, but the pay out of seeing students succeed is worth it all ❤️

To parents of children with already identified communication delays- feel free to scroll past this post, you’ve already identified your child benefits from support and these numbers are not relevant - your child’s progress is ❤️

To parents considering a speech and language evaluation: It can be really difficult for parents to know when to get a speech and language evaluation - especially when they are constantly bombarded with various information and it’s difficult to know what to believe or what is best for your child.

It also gets tricky because there is a HUGE range of average communication development, and commutations skills are way more and way broader than I could include in a “quick” guide. As a result, I always recommend to get an evaluation if you - or anyone else - thinks one is needed. Often that means trusting your gut as a parent, but I think it’s equally important to trust if someone else thinks it’s necessary too.

The truth is: some kids qualify and demonstrate a need for intervention and some don’t- you won’t know unless you see a speech pathologist! AND just because a child does not qualify at one time in their life, does not mean they will not at a later time.

Thankful for my opportunity to serve these children as a speech-language pathologist! Join me in celebrating them today!...
